Munge Freezing

Post by authraw »

I'm trying to munge a test map that I've been using, but it always freezes after this line:

_CreateShadowMesh(lod:0): created hires shadow (226 verts 1322 edges)

Any ideas as to why?

Just wait. Community made models can take up to two or three hours to munge.

Ouch. Really? Maybe I'll try munging it overnight...

Alright, thanks.

yeah the bigger a model is the longer it takes......i waited for my munge for the custom invisible hand over 3 hours....then we split it into 3 parts and after that it took only 10 seconds......!

Just out of curiousity, how large are the files that you guys are talking about, the ones that you've munged? Because my republic side is two hundred and ten mb, and I don't think that I would be allowed to let it munge for three hours.

If you edited it all at once then it will take a while. (I think) but if you kept munging and adding and munging and adding then it won't take any longer then usual (I think)

It usually doesn't take too long for me -- just when I use certain user-made .msh files. Sometimes, it seems, you just have to wait it out.

One of Eddie's grass models freezes the munge if you don't wait for like 3 hours. If it's not necessary, remove it.

Okay, thanks. I'll try that then, doing it in stages. If all goes well, the side will be released this week.

Just remember if you think it "has" stopped, and you press stop or close VM, to do a manual clean of your files.

Okay, but why? I mean, what would happen if I didn't?

When VisualMunge doesn't close properly (you hit stop or force it to quit in the middle of a munge) certain files don't get cleaned up properly anymore. You might not notice the errors right away, but it might drive you crazy later trying to figure out why [insert random error here] is happening. It's best to just nip the problem in the bud while you know what it is.

I can't believe I'm finding this out now!!! I have been having an insanely difficult time with one of my rifleman, and now I know why. I had closed a munge previously to finding the error, because I thought that it was finished. And I didn't do a clean afterwards, manual or other. Maybe that's why the emp launcher didn't show up ingame either. Thank you guys for telling me this, now I can fix the problem. Well, actually, how would you fix it?

If you think your code and stuff is all right, just do a manual clean and then munge everything again.
