@JK514 - Just a question. Why do you keep saying negative things about other people's models? First the DC-15A, and now this (was there one I missed?).
EDIT: Ooh! Ooh!

That model looks good! The only problem is that she doesn't have an Arm Cannon, dang.
Yeah, JK514... Unless it's advice (and you tell why) you're giving, I'm definitely not listening to you.
Yeah. Would these models have animations, or would you need to get those somehow? 'Cuz if they do, we could have like a big SSB map

This might prove useful:

Unless it's illegal to convert, of course - then just forget I said this.

If permission hasn't been given on all these guns they can't be posted in WiPs or the Releases thread. So MAKE SURE you have permission from the original author.

Are we still allowed to show pictures in this thread?

Yeah, but what's the point in bothering if you don't have permission?

Recently, I've been playing MB2 a LOT, and there are some very cool models in it. In a replacement pack, these models were included:
http://jediknight2.filefront.com/file/H ... lker;70767 - Best Anakin model out for JKA in my opinion.
http://jediknight2.filefront.com/file/O ... nobi;46752 - Very good Obi - Wan model.
That's kinda it really, but converting these models would be sweet if you got permission from the author/creator.
And by the way, My name in MB2 is ^Pandemic.

Well, what's the point of asking for permission to convert something, and then finding out it won't work?
-EDIT- Unfortunately, Samus didn't turn out well (no texture) but Anakin's Starfighter turned out great.

Heh.
Great Kaleesh model that would be good for a Kalee map.
I know someone who will want first dibs on this for a map he's making.

Why, is someone making a Kalee map? Or is it just in the planning stages because someone can't play/mod BFII currently

First one.
He's been working on it for a bit.
And it's not me.
-EDIT- What do you guys think of this permission letter I typed up?

We would like to ask permission to convert your [model] to .msh format for use in our mods.
We would of course give you credit.
If you do not want us to convert your model, that is completely fine and we will respect your wishes.
Thanks for your time,

-ANOTHER EDIT- Here's who I need to ask for permission to convert:

Unless it's an original design they don't own it and can't give you permission.
A better question might be are the posting rules to protect the site, the works of the fans, or Lucas?

Getting permission to use JKA models in SWBF2

Like I said before, good luck trying to obtain permission to convert these models, because you may never get in touch with the original authors.
Most of the models are very old, and the original authors have long since gone, and many of their contact email addresses are invalid.
There are a few models that I've been trying to get permission to convert since last August, needless to say, the models are sitting on my desktop collecting dust.

Well I can try.
If we can't contact the authors through the email they provided, can we go ahead and release/use them?

Not according to Tean, you would probably have to set up W.I.P.s on another site and release them there but GT frowns upon converting models even though I've seen a few questionable assets here on this site.

Well like Psycho said much earlier, asking them for permission isn't a legal action. Since none of their models are copyrighted, you could theoretically convert them to BF2 and even if they did file a lawsuit, they would have no basis for it since it wasn't copyrighted.
You might even be able to say that Parachidna or whats-his-face stole it from
you!
The law is a very tricky thing.
But there is nothing legally binding Parachidna to his DC15A an therefore there is nothing legally stopping you from converting it.
'Asking for Permission' isn't a legally backed action and is therefore invalid and unnecessary.
In short: It's not illegal to convert without their permission. Its just against GT rules.
I should totally be a lawyer!

Exactly, you can convert all you want, but you just can't post any W.I.P.s or release anything here on this site unless you acquire permission from the author first(good luck with that).

Well, we understand if you try to contact the author a few times and get no response after a month. That happens. We just don't want to see JKA modders getting mad because their stuff got ripped.
If you try to get a hold of the author and get no response after a reasonable time then you probably won't get a hold of them. At that point it's safe to say they don't mind you using their stuff.
