Lucasarts Awareness

Post by yuke5 »

This thought just occurred to me, and I wondered if there was answer to my question. How aware is Lucasarts of the modding community? I'm aware that Lucasarts must've given Pandemic permission to release the mod tools or something similar, and I have heard that they were with us when GT started. But I'm (relatively) new and haven't heard everything, and may have misheard a few things. My questions:

1. How involved was Lucasarts in the modding community when it began?
2. Have they lost influence in community since then, and if so how much?
3. Do they still check up on us every so often if they'd like some ideas or something?

I don't know, I just wasn't very knowledgeable in the subject, and I was wondering if someone who was could answer my questions.

Thank you.

Pandemic was involved at the beginning after the mod tools were released (for both games), however they were there just to help get the ball rolling and moved on to their next project as that's how business goes. As far as LucasArts themselves their stance is more that they know modding is important to their games - but it's not like they watch the site for cool ideas.

Oh, okay. Man, I don't understand why Lucasarts doesn't pay attention to the modding community for ideas though. I mean, we come up with some cool stuff that they don't always implement. But yeah, thanks for answering my questions.

Don't take as they don't care. It's just that everyone is busy every day just doing their normal jobs. Resources to pay someone for following communities just aren't there, or justified at any rate. They DO take the occasional idea, but that typically happens when a developer is making a sequel - the developer looks at the older games to see what the community came up with.

Yeah you're right, I just wasn't looking at the big picture.
