Assembling models? (Plus 2 lego vehicle models)

Ok, so I've been making more models. Lego models, if you must know

, so far just for fun. I even made precise measurements so its just right (1:10).
And Im making both individual pieces and doing whole models. Its a hassle to make the same blocks over in a model, so i thought to assemble my models, that way they can be used over and over again. Then delete unseen polies, make single polies, and so forth.
The thing is I really don't know good strategies on assembling models, and I need all the ideas I can get so that this can be a smooth process. So far the only idea I have is to export as dotXSI and import within ModTools. Is there a better way or another idea on how to do this?
EDIT: Models are some posts down.

*NOTE random stuff may appear in this post**you have been warned**NOTe nothing bad was said."*
Wait if i read write what's right is right and what's left is wrong? Sorry about that. Anyways ok so you have made the lego bricks. 2X4,2X2,etc. and also whole models like in LSW2. When you mean whole models you mean like building that look legoified. And what you plan to do is just dulpicate all the bricks and literally build the buildings? And to make it short hand I'd just merged the bricks together to make it easier. Or if you want to just have the sides look lego with the texture instead of have so many polies. Hope this helps.
As Lord Vader said to the 501st, "There is a reason why you are called my fist because i don't witich slap, I crush my enemy!"
I'm right on board with the lego project! Well sortof. By sortof i mean like having enough time to help with the project. So I'm saying i can assist.

I see what you mean on 'sortof', I too dont have too much time either, but i can do little by little a day. And actually i haven't made any models as of yet, only basic peices like ones you mentioned. But my first model will be the speeder bike

, so i'm making the pieces and then assembling.
But before I do so, I need to know ways to assemble. As for buildings, it will have a texture to look like bricks, but will have actual brick measurements too. I'm only planning to assemble vehicles, some objects, and headgear on lego minifigs. Anyway, thats just my ideas. Currently I'm measuring a lego minifig (to the 64th of an inch) so it will be perfect
oh, about the randomness, yes it was

lol

Lego models in XSI? Sounds like fun.
Take one of every brick you are using in a model (I'm assuming you're using XSI) and place them in a line. When you need one, copy and paste it.

it sure is.

I like your idea but then it be so many bricks on one file and it be messy so I decided to just export and import asdotXSI.
And for a treat.

I've decided to showcase my progress on the speeder bike. I'm missing the skis, backback, and handle, but ill get to it. And its in brick form, but will later be in poly form so you cant differentiate bricks except by texture.

Could you make lego people that can drive it. Oh, and when the die, they either explode into lego pieces or just fall right over on there backs.

Sounds like recreating Lego™ Star Wars™ II, but hey, that's not a bad thing:P

I actually like the idea since it's so simple and easy to model.

Nomatter what it's important to keep it simple

Keep it up

but you MIGHT consider to make it easy for people who converst it

1 grid in XSI measures 3 feet in-game

a unit is 2 grids high

So think about the size xD
And Arty, it's easy enough to do. Just make some Lego Chunks and call for the chunks in the .odf

You can do that with vehicles - which is known

and units like with the droids.

Updated. See my post above.
Qdin, theres no animation involved in the chunks right? I have like >30 bricks in XSI so far. And if there isn't, making chunks won't be a problem.
And thanks for the comments people.

HOly!!!!! That looks sweet! Do you have the set next to you when you made it?

lol Indeed. I needed it to measure the bricks.
Next time I'm probably going to use an online instruction manual and reference to bricks i have. First I have to combine polygons and texture it.
EDIT: Ugh, I've gotten this model to like 611 polies and 1574 Triangles. Anyone know how many the swBFII speeder has?

Well i haven't put much research into this but my ideal is Lego has a building program where you can make your own sets. My ideal is once you make the model in that program convert it into either xsi then msh or straight to msh. I'm not sure if this will work or not but it may be easier 4 you.

Maybe linking us for that program would help...?
And 611 is many compared to the simple meshes, but not many compared to a game

Keep it low and we can have mosnterbattles without lag

I thought you were talking about this
http://www.ldraw.org/, its sort of a Lego CAD, and heres a link to many convertors for it. I can't find dotXSI but perhaps in a series of exports can work.
http://www.ldraw.org/modules.php?op=mod ... load&cid=6
I also cut down to 601 polies and 1543 triangles (from 611, 1574). w00t. I did some tricks like polygons going through each other (look closely in the image below ). Plus i lifted up the landing gear. [EDIT: I just got it to 589, 1527

]
Qdin, you think the size is good now that I scaled it 1/10 of its size?

that speeder thingie is really cool!

Hey, how big is the speeder in 'real life'?

jsut make it match
and to be honest, it shouldn't be a tough job to texture it. At first you just need a cool Lego skin to apply; which can be completely red, orage or whatever and you can just apply that as the texture

no biggie: To these kinds of models everyone can make thtem without doing anything but simple primitives

so I wouldn't worry about advanced stuffs
