the 32 and 64 bit beta downloads are back up at Ms. no need to goto sketchy sites. There are also about a million beta key apps on torrents. Im trying the w7 and its glitchy just like their site says it is. oh well a free os on a partition is ok with me. $0 and probably 0 usage. Cheers to those who enjoy this new os , please feel free to tell us all anything you find that makes this worth the change.

Where do you get the files? Because I got the key, but the download now button won't work. By the way, I wasn't being greedy, but i got 3 of them. One 64 bit, and two 32. The second 32 one was by accident. I lost internet connection and it refreshed and gave me a new one.
Could someone link me to the files on M$'s site? Thanks.

Yep, I couldnt've said it better myself. XP is solid and there's only one reason I'd every upgrade to Vista, and that's Halo 2 PC. Since I have Halo 3 on my 360 I could care less. I'm one of those guys that feels no need to get the "newest thing" when what I have is great. I don't have an HDTV because frankly I don't feel like I need one yet. Same thing with Blu-ray and Vista IMO.

I'm not.

I actually replaced my XP partition to install 7. Not sure that was a good idea though... I'll probably just format things around and have the 7 beta, XP, and Ubuntu all at once, although I'll most likely only use 7. It's nice, except for the fact that punkbuster doesn't work.

I got it working on a Virtual PC (M$ one) and it's decent so far. I haven't really messed around and put it through tests (Don't really know what to test it with, maybe some games). In the VPC it's ok, because you're running two OS's at the same time and my laptop isn't the strongest with 2GB of RAM, 130GB HDD, and ATI 3200 HD 1GB GFX.
The UI is nice and now that i added more ram to the VPC Win7 it'll work better so i can try out the new things. Um I'm stuck in Basic scheme because the GFX in VPC is like a generic one, so I can't tell ya if it's AERO is cooler/better than Vista's. One cool feature I did find was you can setup 3 Background pics and when you want a different one, just right click on the desktop and select next background and pop, it's there. Not an OS seller, but It's a decent idea.
That's all I got for now. Hopefully I'll find more time to test more, get some screens, etc.

The biggest upgrade to aero that I noticed is that when you move the mouse over the taskbar icons for open apps, a light appears based on the color scheme of the logo for that app and follows the cursor.

neato.

I'm running the Windows 7 Beta right now too and I have to say, Microsoft pulled it off with this OS. Many people are saying that this is what Vista was supposed to be, and I completely agree. It's Vista and XP combined. Eye candy and new features + stability and performance all in one.
You get all the features of Vista: Ultimate WITHOUT bogging down your computer. In fact, the amount of processes that actually run, without user processes, has been very greatly diminished. I don't get lag when I do anything in Aero. And I'm running on a Dell 6400 laptop with 2gb of ram and a Mobile Radeon X1400 graphics card.
The install time took around 20 minutes. From start to finish.
Compatibility problems haven't been an issue at all unlike Vista.
The amount of time it takes me to log on and wait for all my processes to start up before I do anything is about 5 seconds. I haven't timed the actual startup time from boot to log in, but it has definitely been diminished from Vista and a little more than XP. I can honestly say that I like this OS as much if not a little more than XP. I hated Vista. It was a waste of RAM and money. But this blows Vista away.
-EDIT-
I just counted. It takes exactly 50 seconds for my computer to boot and log in. Remember I'm running on a 3 year old laptop.

No trouble with any games yet?

Combat arms = doesn't work. It was working great, but now the background won't stay, the screen resolution changes randomly at times 0_o... various stuff like that. Still going to use it until probably Snow Leopard comes out in which case I may switch over to that. It's running so much faster then Vista though, having problems with some older apps though like stuff from 1995 and stuff.

Combat arms worked fine for me, try running it in compatibility mode. Any Punkbuster games fail though, because PB hasn't been updated to the new setup. What I did was burn a Gparted live CD, set up two NTFS partitions about the same size, install XP on one FIRST (very important) and 7 on the other SECOND (also very important) now when I boot up I get the windows bootloader asking me which one I want.

Compatibility mode also doesn't work for me xD. I get an error, failed to initialize and the mem address is like 0x0000005

I dunno then. try checking out the CA forums, or just do an XP dual-boot. It's easy.

i'm running 7 on an old presario 2000 series laptop and so far fine. my keyboard fried on it so i use the on-screen keyboard. this laptop is really underpowered though to run any good games (score of 2.0). I can suprisingly run transparency fine on it. much better than vista. it outperforms xp in everything but multicore processing. sad, an os that wasn't optimized for that performs better than one that does. but remember, this is still in beta. I might upgrade to 7 if they fix that, otherwise i'll stick to xp until i'm forced to upgrade.

Online Crysis through Steam with PB works fine for me.
Win7 is definitely the best OS I've ever used. Great performance and eye candy, much better usability, quite stable. It's way better than Vista was at the RTM stage.

My brother and the IT guy at our school downloaded it on one of the laptops and I gotta say it's much better than Vista
I do have Vista on my current machine with a Celeron D 3.33 Ghz processor, 3 gigs of RAM and a 500 gig HD (split in two partitions one XP, one Vista) and just on idle it uses anywhere from 10% to 40% of my processor.

Slight bump. But it's the tech forum so... meh.
If you want to get Windows 7, now is the time to buy it. Not get it, buy it. You buy it now and get it in October when it comes out. Anyways, starting tomorrow Windows 7 upgrade discs will be on sale for $50, a little less than half price. For some reason they're only going to make this last from the 26th til July 11th. I guess they're not feeling that charitable.
Anyways if you want it and have Vista already, get the upgrade now. I've been running it since January and I highly recommend it. Very stable and much faster than Vista.
