XSI freezing on startup
I downloaded XSI 4.2 ModTool and installed it. I start it up and it shows the small startup screen that is in the middle of the computer screen. So I waited a while for it to start up thinking that it was just loading. A half hour later its still "loading" so I figure its a freez. It cant even get intothe actuall program. And the only way to get it off my screen is to log off and then back onto my computer. I even redownloaded and reinstalled it....... 3 TIMES! Is there any solution? Cuz I would like to take a crack at modelling.

I had to disable my firewall
Yeah, i had sort of that same problem when i first tried to install XSI, i had to disable my firewall temporarily when installing because XSI connects to the internet on it's own, my firewall was preventing this "unknown" program from access to the internet.
After installing, i re-enabled the firewall and started XSI and when prompted by my firewall program to "allow" access, i clicked "yes", and there was no more problem.

yeah... don't you just LOVE IT when firewalls block a program for 2 hours, then finally give you an option to allow it to work?AceMastermind wrote:Yeah, i had sort of that same problem when i first tried to install XSI, i had to disable my firewall temporarily when installing because XSI connects to the internet on it's own, my firewall was preventing this "unknown" program from access to the internet.

I never said that Norton wasn't the problem. I said that it might NOT be the problem, cuz whever I run XSI the message never pops up, and that can mean three things. A-Norton isn't whats keeping XSI from running and the problem is something else, B-The Norton message is bieng a jack@$$ and it is taking forever to load (like it usually does), or 3-My computer has a mind of its own and its goal in life is to make me as mad as possible. I like the idea you have Ace, and I will try that.

As an ex-norton user, i would place my bet on B. It takes forever to load anything. Try this; when you install XSI, go into norton and click on firewall. Then in the panel on the right side, click settings, or options or similar. Then there should be something on the screen that pops up called "exceptions". click add, then prowse to the .exe for xsi. This may not be exact, as it is a long time since i saw norton (thankfully) and you may have a different version to what i had. Hope this helps.
