Put in Loopy53 'n crew (like that, please) for this contest. I think each entry should have a deadline. For example, my project will take at least another 4 months or so, unless I really bunker down and solely work on swbf2 (which I can do) and then you will have a very high quality map and custom side. I think a deadline of 4 months is reasonable. This gives juniors and experienced members alike enough time to make a high quality map without going overboard. On the other hand, the minimum amount of time before a submission is an interesting concept. I would say three weeks minimum to create a decent map.
Now, I think each user should be allowed put whatever they want and group it in whatever category of map it is. Then, all maps should be judged by equally by veteran modders. After the top 5 are in, a poll could go out stating the top 5 maps with descriptions and screenshots and members vote on each map. The prizes for the top 3 (or 1) team(s)/solo member(s) is up to you. So, based on what you have on the previous page, I will fill out my entry like this:
Setup:
Mod Title - Earth: Apocalypse (added this here myself)
Mod Type - Map + Side
Map Style - Urban, War-Torn, Realistic
Side Style - Custom, Realistic.
Poll Vote - Not sure what this means, but yes I want to be in the poll
Awards - up to you.
Rules
Team Limit - 1
Deadline - 4 months from may first
Vote Time - Not sure what this means, so I will go with whatever you decide. Probably about 1 week for voting for the finalists.
Maximum Submissions - 1
There you go. Any other questions let me know.

While I wholeheartedly agree that there should be a lot of time to do this, 4 months is way too long. 10 weeks, maximum in my opinion. Mav can make a map in two weeks, I'd say he's the best at spitting out quality maps quickly. Most of us are nowhere as good as he is, which is why 5x the time it takes him to make a map seems reasonable for the rest of us.
If I were to make a map, it'd like based off of a Mass Effect location, so it can be added to Unification's next release (after the map is complete).

I have a little modding experience. (Almost 3 years now) I'm on the fence on joining the contest but if I don't join I'd certainly like to judge if that's okay. Kind of in a temporary not-retired but more on a leave of absence due to school.

Hm... I could make 10 weeks work. Now that I really think about it, that seems reasonable.

Way more important then the time is the concept.
I think we should do a concept that allows to use shipped assets and custom ones as well.
No one can use a tree without leaves on a summer styled map. So this should be cleared first. I dont join as fast as loopy and the others i first want to look whats the concept.
I start with some concept suggestions. In the end we should make a poll about which conept we take so here are my ideas
Star Trek: i really want to see where star wars fans the diffrence berween the two sagas
Shining: i love that film would be intressant to see how good the atmoshphere (?) is feelable.
I think we should collect ideas

NoMatt, you can sign up, and if you decide not to do it/can't finish in time/don't like the concept you can just drop out of the contest. Its not like someone here is going to hunt you down and force you to finish a map (as if someone here could ) Anyway, I think that the contest should have a strict no-custom side rule, because if this is a mapping contest, your map should be judged on your map, not your side. Even if you say, "well I'll just pay attention to the map not the custom sides" face it, your brain will still want to give a better rating to a map with a better side than a map with stock/crappy side.

People should be rewarded for going above and beyond, custom sides shouldn't be mandatory but they shouldn't be banned either.

But if it's a mapping contest, people should be judged on their skill at mapping, not sides-ing. It would put people like me, who suck at making sides, at a huge disadvantage. Now if it were a sides+map contest, then its fine, but I was thinking this would be a mapping contest.

These are not necessarily mapping or side contests They are "MOD" contests. Varrying every 1-2 months when a new one is posted.
Hidden/Spoiler:
Setup
Mod Type - Map, Side, Map + Side
Map Style - Forest, Snow, Urban, Desert, War-Torn, Custom (Goofy), etc... Side Style - Republic, Confederacy, Empire, Rebels, Custom, etc...
Poll Vote - Mods for download, players vote after playing. If the number of mods it too high we make several groups, top maps make it into the next tier.
Awards - Title (Type, Style, Date)
I've already gone over this with guru. The first contest is set, it cannot be changed. Not everyone can agree on a single setup.
If all goes well the next contest type, style, and rules can be discussed and voted on prior to it's post.
I will be posting the contest on 04/30/2013 at 2:00 PM. (Forum Time) Those who wish to participate (even if stated earlier in this post) must comment stating they would like to take part in this contest. They will then be added to the participant list.

So if we join, we can drop out if we want/need to, right?

Yep, I just hope we can get a significant number of modders interested. If many join one dropout wont be much of a problem. The more forum members show interest in this contest the higher chance of it being successful.

Will the post be here, in a new topic, or in a topic in the contests section?

You will be able to find it in the General section for the time being. If all goes well guru will create a new "Gametoast Mod Contests" section under "Gametoast Hosted Mods -- Battlefront Series" specifically for this monthly event. (Unless of course local changes)

I am simply trying to develop a set of rules to follow for future mod contests. At this time it doesn't make much sense to ask for conformation twice but later on; when the contests become larger, it will. (Just state the same thing in the topic tomorrow )
A heads up, tomorrow in the General Section at 2:00 Forum time look for the topic named
"Mod Contest (04/30/13)" within it you will find this months "Setup" and "Rules" for the mod contest!
