SWBFII online cheats?
So over on another forum there is a huge discussion about whether a certain mod is a cheat online or not.
Is there anything that is generally considered a cheat for SWBFII online? Would adding the sniper reticule be a cheat? What about increasing the range at which you can see units online? (through the minimap)

Re: SWBFII online cheats?
I'm not going to cheat but I would like to know what cheating is in SWBFII. If this topic is controversial staff, feel free to take it down. It might sound bad but I can't mod anyways.
Another forum has blown up concerning whether a certain mod is a cheat and I was wondering if there was anything that controversial for SWBFII.

Re: SWBFII online cheats?
everything you do, that makes you unit better then the unit of someone else is cheating
So simple reskinning is completly ok, but as soon as you got better weapons or more health you are cheating

But if you modify the weapons you won't be able to play online.

Re: SWBFII online cheats?
Anything that gives you an edge that you didn't have before should be considered a cheat.
This includes adding a sniper reticle, increasing the distance at which units show up on the minimap, and of course, the BIG one, making all buildings/props semi-transparent so you can see enemy units. All of this can be done and still be online compatible.
Well, I'm not sure about the units on the minimap. I haven't seen anyone do that and I'm not about to test it.

Thanks guys. I used those examples in a huge debate for SWBFI cheat that people claim is just a mod. It's "radar" which is the same as this:

If you're using a mod to give yourself some advantage that's not in the vanilla game, that's cheating, no matter how you justify it to yourself. It's like sneaking yourself extra Monopoly money - the rules don't explicitly prevent it, and no one's going to complain if they don't know about it, but duuurh of course it's cheating, because you're not playing the game the way it was designed to be played. Just cheating is available to everyone can cheat doesn't mean that it's no longer cheating. The game "lets" you break collision and wallhack but you'll still get booted from servers for doing it.kitfisto15678 wrote:Thanks guys. You need to join this huge debate Mav. Some people fail to see the obvious.

Alternatively, instead of fueling the fires, we can just ignore the debate. Generally, anonymous people on the Internet with strong opinions aren't going to change the minds of other anonymous people on the Internet with equally strong opinions just by using words, no matter how solid or convincing the argument.

Re: SWBFII online cheats?
Not just that, but the thread that the OP linked us to was a debate in a community very few people here are part of (i.e. SWBF1 online players). If you're looking for a really quick way to irritate a bunch of people, butting in to a conversation that doesn't concern you is a great way to do it.Twilight_Warrior wrote:Alternatively, instead of fueling the fires, we can just ignore the debate.

Not to mention the fact that Phobos hates Mav (and the rest of the admins here) with a passion. Phobos isn't about to agree with any argument Mav puts forth. I'm not going to jump in either, as he hates me almost as much.
I'd just take a step back and relax. Don't participate in the tournament if it upsets you too much.

Re: SWBFII online cheats?
I can't even play SWBFI online after the server shutdown so it doesn't really matter to me.
Phobos also doesn't like me (we all have something in common!) and you are right that no one will change their opinions. I've only posted in that topic showing how funny it is that people are arguing like crazy.
Random thought: If SWBFII servers got shutdown like the SWBFI servers did would you guys figure a way out to bypass the main server for online play? VLAN? Or maybe create your own master server?

Re: SWBFII online cheats?
I thought Gameranger didn't support Server mods so it wouldn't be the best choice right?
