On another note, is it possible to speed up/boost my browsers internet connection speed without paying for faster internet? Because when playing online games, they tend to lag alot/not work very well at all. I'm just curious and aren't really expecting any help on this, but its worth a try

Copying PC game folders between computers & browser speeds
I have, on my old computer, a tonne of games which i have either lost the disc for or are too scratched to use, and which i now use no-cd patches for. I have a much better computer now, and wanted to move all my games to that pc. I was wondering if it was possible to just copy the folder in program files over to my new computers one. Will this work, or are there other files/folders which need copying for it to work properly?

1. It may be eaiser to move the old HD to the new pc.
2. No, not really. If you pc has been on for a while before you play online, restart it, then play. It always moves quicker after that for me.

Probably not because installation puts files in the registry and other locations which would be too much work to find and copy.lucasfart wrote:if it was possible to just copy the folder in program files over to my new computers one. Will this work?

If you're using Firefox, some of these tips might help you out: http://www.mpcgamers.com/smf/index.php?topic=855.0lucasfart wrote:On another note, is it possible to speed up/boost my browsers internet connection speed without paying for faster internet? If you're using Internet Explorer, then you should probably switch to a better browser.

Just to clear something up. I used the term pc because i was had the idea that it meant personal computer. I can't really add the HD to it without a special adapter which costs like $60 or something. It might help if i added that it is:
1. a Laptop
2. A mac (with bootcamp running windows xp)
And i'm using safari as a browser.

Here's my advice:
Don't use a laptop for gaming. Take it from one who had done so. Unless its a gaming one, then you shouldn't play games on it. It strains the system graphically, which affects your online connection in MP. Also, how long does it take for you to load a stock map? Before I got my desktop, it toke about a minute or so to load. Now not even five seconds.

Thats about the same as mine 501st. Mines about 20-30, from what i can recall. And i'm guessing your laptop was an extremely bad one, to take 5 mins to load. The laptop has 4gb ram, 2.6ghz core 2 duo, 512mb NVidia graphics card......it runs bf2 extremely smoothly on highest settings, so i think it'll do501st_commander wrote:RED51 wrote:Now not even five seconds.

Hmmm... I remember Teancum saying that something affected the load time, and I think it was ram... I'm not sure. In any case, my Desktop is better yours!

ok. I'm having another issue with xp. this time, i cannot get the wireless working properly. Windows picks up the signal fine and when i type the network password in, its starts connecting, saying "acquiring network address". The problem is, it just seems to get stuck at this spot. I've left it to connect for the last 30 mins, and its still acquiring the Diet Dr. Pepper address.
The funny thing is i plugged it in via ethernet, and the internet works fine, so its nothing to do with the internet connection.
Also, wireless works fine in Snow Leopard.
I think i should turn this into my own questions thread
EDIT: I think i've found a way to fix it. I did a google search and found this:
http://www.wirelessforums.org/network-t ... -5153.html
There's a few methods there, but i think it may be the drivers that need updating...
