I've been having this issue for... as long as I can remember. Sometimes if I search something and then try to do a second search, I will get the message "Cannot use search at this time, please try again in a few minutes". I'm by no means trying to spam the search, but sometimes if I can't find what I'm looking for the first time I will go back to the search page and try new search key words, about 10 seconds after the first search. Is this a feature to deter people who might try to overload the site by spamming searches? Or is there some way for me to get around this?

Kinda, but, meh...

Unless GT's servers are that vulnerable, I don't really think it's a necessary feature (GT is not high traffic and we're not famous enough anymore to be targeted by a large enough group to DDoS us). But it's really not a big deal to me. Just try again in 30 seconds, should do it.

To be clear, it's a bandwidth thing. Searches take up a lot as it has to look through everything. It doesn't relate to attacks. Guru funds the site out of his own money, so he keeps it that way to not eat up bandwidth.

Sorry if that sounded a bit cold. I agree it's annoying, but I'm also glad he can continue to fund Gametoast.

Thanks all! Yes search searches a massive 11 year old database so it eats piles of bandwidth limits could be lifted with donations but that happens once every few years lol
