I don't think I can finish mine in time either. Did some good work on it, but then lost interest/been busy.
When I regain interest in this map I could probably start a WIP and try to finish it in the next spurt of modding I do... or the next one... but I will eventually finish it. It needs more time so I can put my best effort into it.
I did do that SWBFFiles canyon contest way back when in just 3 days, but... yeah, that took a lot more work
after that to make it good.
And no, Cleb, it's not your fault.

Never started working on it. Have to withdraw as well lol. Lol, is anybody even still working on their map for submission? Has to be them. Someone else might get it wrong.

I was just going to submit a completely stock flat map for my contest and I haven't even started up my modding computer in about a month. I doubt I'll be submitting anything.
[Oddly enough I have been busy with other things but the main reason is that I just lost interest, sometimes I feel like modding and will pump out a map or 2 and do a week or so on continuous work but then I stop for a month.]

I thought about submitting my half baked map, but then decided against it. The theme was supposed to be crazy, but mine only had stock sides.(however, the map was pretty much complete)
Maybe I should've submitted it, because now, looking back, something is definitely better than nothing. Now I can't submit it because I'm not in the right country to do so. :p
I might create a WIP for it, but it's a pretty small scale mod.

Lol, Dakota's stock flat map might win by default.

Nope, 'cause mine has props and hills and custom sides…so unless the bottom falls out of the internet around here and I can't upload, I'll be able to beat the default (I hope!)
So, for a lot of you, it looks like either you ought to submit something that could get better and more complete with more time, or we should have the next contest's rules allow entries that were being worked on for this contest but didn't get done.
Certainly I expect to need to to make improvements to my map and release a second version after the contest is over.

I guess for most of us the timing was just pretty bad, being right during the hardest part of the school year.

^. Summer is probably the best time to do a contest, as well as over holiday breaks. The first two months of the school year are pretty chill but November is when things start to heat up.

It seems that we all share the same problem. I was really busy with work and school the last weeks, but now I am done with the exames. I worked in between on my map, but I could not reach the point, where I was able to say it is done.
I hope this contest goes on somehow.

We could just give people another month, I personally think that is a fair amount of time, given that most people probably have at least the concept design down already.

Your problem has never been "not enough time." Your problems with this (from the beginning) have been:
a) Too
much time
b) No organization (you need some kind of strong driving force, not this "oh hey guys, I'll do a contest if you will")
c) No consistent theme
I don't want to be "that guy," but come on - I ran a couple contests over at SWBFFiles, and I wasn't exactly shy about sharing how I did them. Those were all successful and should give you a pretty easy template to work off of. I'm not saying I had the best ideas, but good grief, at least it's a starting place. This is a silly mess.
And, opinion - if you want a good contest, limit as many options as possible. Make a tight theme (e.g. these maps all need to be in space stations), minimal other options (e.g. limited to Clone Wars, stock sides), and dial your time waaaay down (e.g. two weeks). I know it seems like you're limiting yourself, but I promise that you'll see more and better focused creativity if your options are really limited.

Agreed. And while I don't have a problem modding without a well-defined theme, I do expect that it will be much harder to judge when the maps & sides have very little in common.
And, for the record, I did finish my map well enough for submission, in 5 1/2 days.

A lot of people, if you look at the first page, questioned the broad topic of the map, and glitch said the next one would be more specific. For sides, in the
first topic, I brought this up, but glitch and nate kinda said that limiting sides would ruin the contest.

Maybe the next contest (if we have one, glitch left and he was the organizer) will have more limits.

Although, this is no longer my primary concern, I am seeing this contest through to the end. I check back every now and then to see how it's going, members who drop out, or want to join are added or subtracted from the participant list. I might not have as much time, but I will keep in an eye on this.
As for the lack of mod specifics, guru suggested a "Goofy" starter contest. We reasoned with it, this contest would spark interest, next contest will be more specific, will be for any type of modder, and would not restrict the first contest to certain map or side type.
Constructive criticism is very helpful, please share your ideas on how future contests should be run, an overall template for future contests to follow would be fantastic, discuss themes, contemplate rules, guidelines, and specifics. If anyone would like to run the next contest please say so!

If there are no objections, I will organize and lead the next contest. I already have a theme, rules and restrictions, and even prizes in mind. It will start as soon as this current contest wraps up.

Aren't we now a day past the deadline, or am I missing something?
If so, it would kind of be nice to have some sort of update...how many maps were submitted, when the polls will open, etc.

That would be awesome! I'm just happy that everyone liked my idea of bringing back the contests
