Someone has my ip address and now the city that I live in, my computer is keylogged, I called my ISP and they said that they can't give me a new IP address because there not static.
I have no clue what to do...
Help?
EDIT: Installed a couple very high end firewalls, and am monitoring network traffic alot...

This is 99% probably a stupid question, but: What exactly can someone do if they have your IP address? Can they hack into your system or something?
And, this sounds kinda weird (I dunno why, it just does), but I'll keep you in my prayers.

They can send you a trojan, virus, mess with your settings, etc.
Sheesh, that must suck.
Hope you get through this

Is this person a hacker? Hates you?
If not, I wouldn't worry much.

Your tech support it stupid (which isn't suprising, especially for comcast). Static I.P. is constant, dynamic I.P. means it changes. If they are not static, then they are dynamic, which means they should know how to get your modem/gateway to release the current i.p and request a new i.p.
what modem or gateway does comcast use for your net access?

It's not necessarily true in all cases, but in some, keyloggers are just dumb. A lot of times they leave "Keylog" or some variant in the name, and you can just search and destroy manually without much difficulty. Give it a try.

I would need more info. So your isp gives out ips and there not static? so there dynamic , so you get a new one every 48 hours? If you have a static ip and someone is hacking your network then install the firewall and block everything not needed and only allow packets from port 80 (internet) and anything else you use like 25 for outgoing mail etc.. anything else that pops up trying to access the net on your pc should be askingpermission and then you can spot any loggers and remove them. spybot search and destroy spots and removes 99% of all keyloggers. It sounds like someone is just on your pc with a trojan. In the day i used to play with those , its easy , you attach a trojan into a file, people download it and open the file like normal , a tiny file hides itself in the os and runs as a valid process like network processes and every time you turn on your pc and go online the ip and login info to your machine is sent to the hacker. they login and access your pc and run it just like their on your pc from anywhere in the world. Its fun and evil. anywho thats what i think you have. 1. take out internet cord 2. run spybot and remove all things 3. reformat if nothing is found and still issues ( I can reformat and put windows on a machine in under an hour) 4. if you still have issues after that then someone at your isp or a hacker is literally sitting at your dsl box outside. good luck

Lol, Me to

I've timed myself before...
Anyways, ya thanks for the advice Guru
Ya, comcast did say they give dynamic IP's...
EDIT: Yes, its sad how easy trojans can be made! Visual basic 6 should be named Trojan Basic 6!
EDIT EDIT: I also installed Commodo firewall last night. We use a linksys router and a motorla router.

IP's aren`t much to worry about. on freewebs about like 200 pep know my IP and i know like everyones on freewebs so if they mattered that much i doubt freewebs would clearly show them

On DOS you can do this
Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\(account name)>ipconfig/renew
and it will change your IP address. Just for future reference

That doesn't work behind routers.
Trust me, IP's do matter depending on the ports you have open...
