Besides that, which is all true.. Let's be fair. The Battlefront games were one of the few best selling star wars games.. And BFIII is starting to look quite new-gen to me! If they want to milk out SW more, a BFIII would probably be the keyTaivyx wrote:Kind of with as a further elaboration on what I was thinking, I think there's a good chance Lucasarts may pull the plug on Battlefront 3 due to fading interest the Star Wars franchise.Taivyx wrote:On another note, I think that Pandemic made one of the best-selling star wars game of all time only for the reason that it was a expansive shooter based on the star wars series.
That's it, really.
If you were to take out the Star Wars aspect of Battlefront 2, it wouldn't nearly half as many copies as it did.
Lucasarts is starting to branch off of Star Wars into other areas of gaming, with releases like Thrillville and Mercenaries 2.
They went with Force Unleashed, I think, not because it was Star Wars but because it was a game that brought something new to the table.
As far as I can see, aside from the now-dead ground-to-space combat, Battlefront 3 really isn't bringing anything unique and original.

I wonder how the setup is going to be, like are they still gonna have Instant Action and multiplayer and stuff? And are they gonna have all the same classes like a rocketeer, sniper, jet trooper, engineer, etc? I hope they do...
I just got one thing to say: Please don't let BF3 die! It could be the best SW game yet!!!

Re: Battlefront III News
I don't think that's entirely true. I don't think there's really a fading interest in the Star Wars franchise, The Force Unleashed was what Star Wars was all about, throwing people around with the force, lightsabers, good vs. evil, and the story of redemption. Plus, The Clone Wars (like or, personally, not) and the "live-action" tv-show, have and will not only draw a lot of fans, but open up gaming options as well, as we've already seen with Lightsaber Duels, as will TOR, sending Star Wars into the mmo world with something slightly more attractive than galaxies. The fan base may be getting younger, but Battlefront 3 would not only make the existing older gamer happy, but give the Star Wars gaming community a boost.Taivyx wrote:Kind of with as a further elaboration on what I was thinking, I think there's a good chance Lucasarts may pull the plug on Battlefront 3 due to fading interest the Star Wars franchise.Taivyx wrote:On another note, I think that Pandemic made one of the best-selling star wars game of all time only for the reason that it was a expansive shooter based on the star wars series.

That's just my two cents, and I may be overly protective of Star Wars. I may also just be in denial about the possibility of there not being a BF3.

I don't know really... Star Wars Battlefront I and II were great also. They need to add a lot of features and create a new engine for me to consider it the best Star Wars games ever.Nova Hawk wrote:I wonder how the setup is going to be, like are they still gonna have Instant Action and multiplayer and stuff? Also, since they loss the land to space feature, I don't know if I'll call it the best Star Wars game ever.
About the classes, I hope they make up new ones, but make them specific to the movies! I don't want to see random ad-ons to the units and vehicles just to fill the spaces.

I don't think a land-to-space feature would make or break a game's potential to be the best Star Wars game ever. I will agree though that some new features/a new engine would be nice to see. I like the way the first two games are set up, but I think I'd like to see some changes, even if they're minor ones.Mac wrote:I don't know really... Star Wars Battlefront I and II were great also. I'd be fine if the unit-setup was left close to the way it is in the first two games. The only thing that I might do to it is add a bit of variety depending on the environment. For example, I've never liked the fact that indoor maps such as Tantive IV have snipers, rocketeers, and jettroopers running around; for maps such as that in BF3, those units could just be replaced with more appropriate ones.

Yes, true. I wish some maps were only troopers, and a sniper. Like on Geonosis or Tantive IV.

I agree with Eggman here. Just because you can't fly from the ground to space means the game won't be good? Look at all the coutless threads talking about how the game could be improved for BF3. And that was before people even knew it was in development.
How many of those threads say "If you can't fly from planet to space seamlessly, forget even making BF3"
If it weren't for the leaked video, nobody would've known that the ground to space thing even existed, and now it's the main factor behind your decision to support or be excited about how awesome this game could be?

Re: Battlefront III News
Mercs 2 was EA and Pandemic not LA. The first one was LA and Pandemic.
SWBFIII is the best selling franchise and LA knows it and they know hundreds of thousands of people want it and will buy. I'll buy for $60 and i don't even own a system that has games that are $60 (Wii and PC if you can't guess).
We're jumping to conclusions and thinking the worst. There are some here who are making sense and being calm about.
We should take a break and collect our thoughts all about SWBFIII before continuing this. Right now we're just reacting.

To be fair, I was more saying I won't buy the game because Rebellion Studios is supposedly taking over. SWBF: Renegade Squadron == major fail.squipple wrote:I agree with Eggman here. It's funny you say that. I've played renegade squadron ( unlike most people who flame it) and although I was disgusted by graphics, gameplay was ok? Will bf3 be good in their hands? Maybe.Teancum wrote:To be fair, I was more saying I won't buy the game because Rebellion Studios is supposedly taking over. It can be as long as they don't completely undo everything Free Radical did. Also whatever happen to games being fun?

Re: Battlefront III News
I can agree to a point there. I bought a PSP just to play that game. Well, that, God of War, and Dungeon Siege. I was disappointed in the game, mostly for the controls, but there were a few things I did like about it. The new maps were pretty nice. Multiplayer was remarkably well done for the platform it was on. Compared to a PC game, it was no contest, but it at least it worked. I thought the story was nice too. I think for the most part, it=fail because of the platform it was on.Teancum wrote: To be fair, I was more saying I won't buy the game because Rebellion Studios is supposedly taking over. Re: Battlefront III News
I wanted a PSP for more the SWBFRS, but it was the main reason. The game part of it was one of the biggest waster of 200 bucks ever. The PSP is pretty useful, though, as it's like a iPod video. I have an old nano, so...squipple wrote:I can agree to a point there. I bought a PSP just to play that game. Well, that, God of War, and Dungeon Siege. @Tean: I would have to argue that realism, if done right, is fun. After all, this is Star Wars, so 'realism' can be loosely defined. I think what everyone wanted was an experience that reflected the movie because of the epic thrill it gave all of us, and now SWBF3 is giving us some hope for that.

This is one of the few times I'll say, Don't listen to Wiki because it's wiki. Plus I've read both of those articles when they came out and nowhere do they say SWBFIII was canceled nor FR was going to.

Agreed. Don't follow Wikipedia on this guys. It's just people like you and me posting random things that they read and hear on the net.
