Extracting Sounds?

Is there any way to extract the sounds from the LVL files in SWBF2? Or is it possible to play separate sounds with one of the tools provided with the ModTools?

Forgive me if this is a noobish question.

Thanks in advance. :D

Play separate sounds? You'll have to explain what you mean by that one.

But no, nothing (sounds included) can be extracted from .lvl files.

That's not entirely true, I've extracted skins and used them from side .lvl's before with .LVL extractor, found at this link http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... ctor;32428.

What I mean is, is there like a sound player in the Mod Tools for Battlefront 2 that I can load a sound into it and actually play it and hear it?

I tried it on the HOT.lvl from the SOUND directory and it didn't work. :(

As far as I know, besides .odfs and .tgas, sounds can NOT be extracted. Even if you do find some way to do it, it's illegal.

Not if its a fair use use (at least in the USA). What are you trying to do with the sounds? If you want them in a mod map, you could open those sounds files ingame the normal way. If you want them for a fan movie or something, you can always turn the volume up and rerecord the sounds...

It is illegal if the ModTools EULA says:
ModTools EULA wrote:(4) New Levels may not include any LucasArts sound effects or music files or portions thereof.
As an after thought, I suppose it's not illegal to extract them, but once you use them, it's a different story.

If we're getting nitpicky then technically we don't even have the rights to do that. The only rights we have are to use the sounds in the game and nowhere else. But truthfully as long as it stays locally on your own drive I doubt anyone would care. It's the distribution that becomes an issue.

But that's only if we get nitpicky....

I take that to mean your mod can't redistribute the game's official sound files. I don't see a problem with having your mod load the existing sounds from the existing shipped game files already installed. I.E. Its fine to use the blaster shots (sounds effects) because they are build into the game, but LucasArts doesn't want you putting those effects directly into your map. Also, just because a EULA says something doesn't make it illegal.

Of course, MrSinistar doesn't say why he wants to extract the sounds and this has nothing to do with his second question (which I don't know. I know there is a tool to munge sound files, but that isn't listening...).
