Re: All-Purpose Request Thread (Mk. IV)
Considering the fact that ARC_Commander hasn't logged on in over three years...I'd go with reply hazy, please try again.

So if I use one of his assets from BFX is it just ok to give credits? He said to contact him if you wanted to use them in a mod, but not for a map...

Typically people use "mod" and "map" in correlation with each other, I.E. they mean generally the same. Also, I'd recommend reading through this: viewtopic.php?f=40&t=22562

Then people are typically wrong.
ARC means that BFX assets can be used in maps, but not side mods, so that no one uses so much of it in another side mod that it becomes BFX 3.

Guess so. But know that I have never ever touched BFX in any way before, other than one melee ODF, but that's it. I know practically nothing about it other than the fact that it's a mod that a lot of people happen to enjoy. Although, I do remember reading, when I downloaded the assets, the author mentioning what you said about BFX 3.

So does that mean I can't use the knife model, textures, combo, and base odf in my side mod?

The knife model was DUCK's (or he converted it and someone else made the model, I can't remember). I don't think Arc Commander would mind you using the rest either. He just didn't want someone recreating his work and making BFX 5 or something ridiculous.

Exactly. If he only pulls an asset or two from BFX, then that's probably alright, but if he pulls an entire side from the assets...yeah no.THEWULFMAN wrote:The knife model was DUCK's (or he converted it and someone else made the model, I can't remember). Re: Is ARC_Commander still around?
Noobasaurus, you need to learn to recognize whether the things you ask are requests are not, because what you asked wasn't one in the usual sense on Gametoast. We create new topics for these types of questions.
I've always found ARC_Commander's stipulations regarding the usage of his BFX assets to be unreasonable. It's certain, as already mentioned earlier, that those conditions are simply there to prevent others from creating an updated version of his mod, which is understandable. And of course, there's the usual give credit where it is due. But he asked that we respect his conditions when he himself cannot even live up to two of them. Ask his permission? ARC_Commander is unreachable nowadays. He obviously does not care about SWBF2 anymore or those of us who mod it. In addition, he provided an incomplete and vague credits list, forcing us to guess and figure out which assets he personally created and which assets others actually created. I think this "contract" has officially expired (don't take my word on this).
I used a couple of BFX assets once in mod. Just a couple of skins and an explosion effect. Then I got used as an example of someone who didn't ask permission.
