I didn't like how the top came out in the beginning, so I made it all complicated and stuff.
I guess the blade is going to be shaped like a star. Hehe.

Pretty good for starters. It's a shame you wouldn't be able to use it though.

Isn't the object too detailed (too much sharp edges) for a lightsaber? (if not, then sorry)

Depends. How many polies does that hilt have? And you can always make a simple cylinder, then give it a really good texture.

Like I said, I'm new to modeling (not to sketchup though)
so I have no idea what polies are.

I found this out recently: polies stands for polygons (any shape)

Sorry but even knowing the meaning, I don't think I can figure out how many there are.
is there a way sketchup tells you how many there are?
like in the corner or properties or something?

Thanks Commander Fett :jango:

it's not exact, but if you go to file/export and export as a kmz, a screen will pop up saying how many tris were in the model. Generaly, the number of tris is more or less double the number of polies, since the most common shape (rectangle) is 2 tris

Or go to Model Info. It looks like a blue circle with an "I" in it. Toggle your toolbars until you find it. Clicking on it will open a window that talks about the model. From there click on the Statistics line in the box to the left.

EDIT: This picture will explain better.

Wait, the Model Info is only in Pro? I don't get that, because I used to have the Free version, and Model Info worked for me then. Then I overwrit it unwittingly with the Pro. Now its expired, and it does stuff the Free version does, I think that's what its supposed to do. So, you download the Pro, then it expires, and reverts to the Free version. So, why wouldn't it work for Free verison?

Well, I don't know for sure, since I haven't really searched that hard, and I have the trial too. :|
