Don't worry, just because XP will no longer be supported, it doesn't mean you can't use it anymore (maybe not with the Internet). I personally had a computer running Windows 95 (since late 1995) and continued using it until some time in 2004/2005 when it finally stopped starting up. And support for 95 ended in late 2001. Just thought I'd share this.

With a C++ error, i gather it was built in C++. Meaning, the computer is missing a file, framework, redistributable packge needed. The only thing is, no one can find out what it is.
So what if it's not a game! Doesn't change the fact that it proves my point. I can't do with Win7 what needs to be done, plain and simple. Now by the time XP support is gone in four years nobody will care about the apps Win7 can't run, but for now these are all things that some people, including myself, use. For every game/app that works I can just as easily come up with one that doesn't.
I should be clear. If you (meaning anyone reading this post) like Win7, good for you. Really. I hope you enjoy it, because I can see how some people would. But I hate the UI, I hate that all of the advanced features take twice as long to access, and some can't be accessed without using third party apps that drastically modify the registry. I hate that won't run a lot of third-party apps and games, and that it often crashes using Microsoft-based 2010 suites, such as Office and Visual Studio (which run fine on my XP rig). I just can't stand it, as it everything feels like a step backward with a pretty "I'm built for the texting generation" coat of paint.
And that's my word on it. It's great for some, but for me it's:
WinXP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Win7 >>>>>> WinVista

As you can tell im a fan of vista, NOT, anyway, I like Win XP, And I will continue using it as long as I can.

For christmas I built a new computer, and installed 7 literally less than an hour ago. I got it because I needed a Microsoft OS, DID NOT want Vista, and XP didn't have support for some new programs I use. It seems better than vista right now, and I know a few friends who like it, but I'm gonna have to look through what it really is offering me, I see no XP improvement. I actually don't enjoy the visuals, and the thing that bugs me BEYOND ALL ELSE, visual-wise, is the taskbar. Why does it have to be double as big as XP and Vista's? Why? It hogs too much real estate, and I don't even enjoy its looks.

I lol'd
The way I see it, the Windows operating systems are getting "better" with the newer versions. They may have more problems the further we go, but they also become more capable and practical.

Yeah, I really, really doubt that. Sorry, but you're speaking of things that you don't know. The people who do tech refreshes here have been doing this kind of stuff for years and years. Besides how do you install it "wrong"? The only way that could go down is if you try to install a 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine or vice versa.
Again, I'm not asking you to defend Win7. If you like it, good for you. I'm telling my horrid experience with it, and why I'm sticking with XP until I can't anymore.

It seems like we should organize a big group to send Microsoft a bunch of e-mails telling them to perfect XP and stop trying to reinvent the wheel. It sounds ridiculous, but I bet it'd get us somewhere!

That won't really work. Windows 7 is more liked then it seems.
Microsoft is moving on, they aren't going to revive a soon-to-be-dead OS. It would be like asking them to restore windows 2000

I concur :plokoon:
I am all for it, but i suggest we aim to just keep support for XP for longer, rather than trying to get something like XP 2.0

but they already extended it to 2014 because of businesses. The support was going to end at 2012.

I have a friend that has a brother that works as a software developer with Micorosoft. You may get the idea why now.

It is safe to say Microsoft is part of the "immovable" group of mankind.

While I don't know what Micorosoft does, everyone always knows someone who works at
Microsoft, in the game industry etc.
But face it guys, 501st is 100% right. No company will go back to an older product. That, to them, would be moving backwards on top of admitting they made a mistake. The best we can hope for is they realize the faults inherent in 7 as they did a year or two after XP was out and fix them. I have hope for the future, but right now 7 has a long way to go.
