Playable space issues

Ok well im a little confused. I know that the playable terrain is up to about 1000 from the centre of them map in each direction .

Heres where i get a little confused......

You can fly ,say, a tie fighter alot further than that and not die (fall thro the world) if you land and get out you die instantly. Ok thats, fine ...but if i have no terrain and have objects (like a hangar for instance) further than the playable terrain and i go and land in the hangar and get out i still die.

What is so special about flyable vehicles that stop you from dieing in the unplayable space?

I ask this cos im makin a space map (set in the geonosis asteroid ring) with a few boardable cap ships . At the moment the space between each cap ship isnt really big enough. if i try and seperate them more every1 dies as soon as they spawn (fell thro the world) but its possible to fly far far further without dieing.

you dont put a barrier up .....which gives the call for the 'leaving the battlefield'

in a space map this isnt needed as the playable space seems vert restrictive as it is.

I think i know what you mean

I played Geonosis: Arrival and flew up SO much high I could with the Geonosian, and dropped down

I more or less dies instantly

I also tried with flying, and falling from 'medium' height, and I also died there

there's something when a unit is WAY too far away from the ground, that activates Instant Death

Fred's solution:

Try changing the terrain size this way:
(I am assuming you are you the latest zeroeditor.exe)
Go into your project folder and launch zeroeditor manually. When you do this no world is loaded. Now create your new terrain of size 512 x 512. At this point, feel free to do nothing and select SAVE. Now, select the pulldown menu for file types to display and select TER. Go ahead and browse to your project folder, select the terrain you want to replace, and overwrite it. Munge and run, and you should not die at 1000 meters (the size of a 256 grid). This should work for any size terrain, please report if you experience otherwise.

I've made maps as big as 1024 x 1024 and have gone as close to the edge as 40 meters. You have to stay away from the edge where it starts to wrap around, and this can be seen by painting the terrain in edit color mode and watching for when the paint wraps. The problem is when you get into the wrapping zone the game cannot calculate terrain corrdinates. It's teh same as if you tried to spawn on top of a hole in the terrain made by a terrain cutter. You just have to find the edge of playable space and move the spawn points in until they can spawn. If you change teh grid size it will also probably change how close to edge you can get too.

Ok well I tried this and it worked fine with testing using the clone wars era and the droideka (you can get about 2000m from centre), however using the exact same map but with dark trooper etc... it again died at 1000m. why would this happen? :?
