I want to texture the highlighted region with a predefined tga-pattern, s. attached picture. Can anybody help????????

look into the xsi tutorialthread, there you can find several tutorials about texturing and UVing

Why don't you just reskin it? Alot easier than texturing the entire model again in XSI...
