Halo Movie

I had heard rumors there was going to be a Halo movie but now that it's listed on IMDb (Internet Movie Database) I know it's probably going to happen. It's set to release sometime in 2012 but knowing all the work there going to have to do creating the Covenant and all the vehicles and everything we will see if they stay with that date. Here's the info.

Info: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0464037/

Also here is a cool video I found while searching to see if there was any kind of trailer for the movie. It's fan made but it's still incredible and it really gets me pumped for the movie.

A lot of Halo fanboys got upset over this when the plug was pulled on the project a while ago, which led to the creation of District 9 (and for some reason, the halo fanboys hated D9). Hopefully Halo is as good as District 9.

But nobody cares about Halo fanboys, because most of them are long-haired, fat thirteen-year olds. Back in 2007 before it was announced for cancellation, this film was planned to pretty much have the same budget as Avatar. Now that Avatar has been released and with films now starting to do a trend of filming in Digital 3D, I bet this movie will be made, with the same budget, and with the same viewing options as Avatar. In other words, meh I'll probably see it but not care that much since I was never a real big fan of Halo to begin with.

My hopes and expectations were just shot down. They were riding on the wing of a prayer, but that wing was burning and the prayers were answered by Satan.

Never really played Halo. At least it'll make the fanboys happy. (Hopefully...)

Why do they make Halo movies when they could make a Half-Life or Team Fortress 2 movie...

Because not enough people want a Half-life or TF2 movie.

TF2 doesn't really er have a plot...

Half-Life 2 would be one epic (in both terms of length and awesomeness) movie, but too long. Plus, you'd have to include Episodes 1 and 2, which would probably be mashed into one film. Not to mention the games are practically movies.

You say that because you enjoyed the game, but it would be a terrible translation from game to movie. The main character has zero personality. It's just a cipher for whatever person's playing as it, and while that works fine for a first-person narrative, it doesn't work for a non-interactive story.

And FYI, a listing on IMDB means about as much as a listing of a game on a preorder list on Amazon or Gamestop - that is to say it means just about nothing.

This too. Plus, you can't just start with Half-Life 2, you'd have to begin with Half-Life, which has the same problems, length and as Mav said, Gordon. Who would play him? We know he'd be given lines, no matter how hard the fanboys raged or how biased the director was, Gordon would be given a voice.

There actually was talk about a Team Fortress 2 series or movie, but it was really just wishful thinking by Valve.

Anyways, I think the only way an audience would enjoy a Halo movie would be if they did Sadie's Story from ODST. It has characters that aren't silent protagonists, thus, the audience can relate to them, and the Covenant soldiers don't show up until about half way, which is good for dramatic effect.

Yeah, ODST would make a great movie. And as Mav was saying about Gordon Freeman, while the best GAME characters are often silent protagonists: Link, Gordon Freeman, Master Chief, even the Rookie, they don't make for good film characters.

Well atleast Halo has cutscenes in the game with the chief talking. Half-life 2 has absolutly no cutscenes throughout the entire game, unless you count G-Mans apperences. The only time we really even see Freemans face is on the cover of the game. Although you don't techically ever see the Chief's face either. :D

Still, while you can hypothetically give the Chief dialogue, that'd ruin his mysterious image. And most of the games, at least what I've played, is him trudging through levels, without saying anything, and while it could be condensed and given more dialogue, it'd be tough. I'd be interested in a movie that's shaped like a documentary, with the thoughts of the marines and more prominent characters about Master Chief.

You mean like the fan video in the OP? I agree that would be cool.

The link you posted to in the OP was a compilation of a series of live action videos that were created before Halo 3's release. That guy just thought he could get views by calling it: "The Halo Movie" trailer.

And while a Halo movie in theory is cool, it probably wouldn't be executed very well, because although there are the Halo books that add life to the Spartans, the majority of people that play the games most likely haven't read the books, and the movie would most likely be a crude adaptation of the games.

Imagine the rants about there not being Gordon Freeman.

He'd be the guy you only caught a glimpse of. Problem solved.

And I think Valve could make a TF2 movie work. Just look at the "Meet the ___" videos.

Oh, and sorry for derailing this topic. I even tried to make my point subtler by making it small, but to no prevail.
