Flying sideways
Is it somehow possible to let a flyer fly sideways, like a helicopter?

Re: Flying sideways
Nope.
Topic solved. There's no workaround, the code was lost when they were updating the SWB1 code.

They took out prone because they didn't think anyone cared for it. They didn't take out flier strife, the code for that was lost when they were adding it special maneuvers, the barrel roll and split-s. They didn't have time or the need to add it back(remember, they had 14 months to turn SWB1 into SWBF2. They did have the existing assets to work off of, but 14 months is nothing for game development), since there was no pilotable gunships in the stock maps.

no pilotable gunships in the stock maps?
if you are talking of bf1 there were lots of gunships but if you are talking of bf2 then there is still space.

Re: Flying sideways
He's talking about in SWBF2, which has no gunships in the stock maps, excluding the space maps, which wouldn't make sense to have strafe in.

Lucasarts and Pandemic have a terrible track record of asking their fans what they want.

Re: Flying sideways
Incorrect. According to my conversation with one ex-dev and another with Psych0fred the code was simply overridden by the .combo code and they had no time to re-implement it.THEWULFMAN wrote:They took out prone because they didn't think anyone cared or it....

I see. Thanks for the info. I always was told it was because they didn't know people really wanted it. But at this point, anything "bad" about SWBF2 can be contributed to the deadline. 14 months is just ridiculous. Some mods take longer than that. I'd like to tell Lucasarts where they can shove their deadlines...

Yeah, from what I've been told they started on the sequel pretty much right after SWBF1 went gold -- I.E. no down time whatsoever.

Re: Flying sideways
Well, modding a game and professionally developing a game are two different things. The former is usually considered a hobby, often done during one's free time, whereas the latter is usually considered a career. I highly doubt any of us mod for eight hours a day with a set release date or even get paid for it.THEWULFMAN wrote:14 months is just ridiculous. Some mods take longer than that.

Re: Flying sideways
I remember reading here that it was both of these, as well as the prone being buggy or something along the lines of that. :sTeancum wrote:Incorrect. Re: Flying sideways
Also, with all the new heroes and units, they would have to create new prone animations, and I don't believe that doing that would be easy or worth it.

Re: Flying sideways
This is another reason why they should have made a BF3....
I mean, if they only hads 14 months... why not create a new game if this was a success (Which it was) If they could create a game like this from BF1 in 14 months.... Imagine what they could have done in a couple of years?

Nope - prone would have been a common animation like crouching or running.ARCTroopaNate wrote:Also, with all the new heroes and units, they would have to create new prone animations, and I don't believe that doing that would be easy or worth it.

Re: Flying sideways
I stand corrected. I agree with Slime. If they had a few years to do Battlefront III it could have been an amazing game.
