Alright so yeah at long last I'm laying down my 6 year old PC, that is literally giving it's life out to do the simplest of tasks, so I've been searching, asking and whatnot and it has come to these 5, keep in mind that my budged goes as far as 950 bucks, so please, between these, which is a better overall laptop? (I intend to use it for general purposes going from media editing, sharing music, homeworking, and importantly, some gaming).

I wouldn't get a ASUS or lenovo. The better ones are Toshiba and HP. If i had the money to get one, i'd go for the HP Pavilion dv6-2180us. Iit looks like a good one.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply, well I still have 3 weeks before making the decision so I'm open to suggestions, another thing I forgot to mention is that I do not live in the us, so I must choose the right one and must be able to have it shipped to the location I'll be staying at within 3 weeks.

Of the ones you've selected, the Lenovo is the best one. Lenovo is a fairly decent brand, as is ASUS, Acer, MSi, and other foreign manufacturers. HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, and Samsung are all mediocre in terms of performance and reliability. Computers from the Asian companies are usually cheaper, more reliable, and offer better value.

The Lenovo is the best one for a couple of reasons:

• Core i7 720QM. I own this processor- it is a beast. Don't let the advertised speed fool you- it boosts up to 2.8 GHz.
• Radeon 5730M. Good performance. Middle of the road, but it should play everything at fairly decent quality. DirectX 11.
• 4GB ram- more than enough for any task

The next best one on the list is the Asus G72, but I would not get it because it does not have the latest technology and is not future-proof. Games will start requiring things it does not have.

I'll have to disagree with you jedikiller. HP, Toshiba and Sony are three of the best brands out there. It may not look like it, but major tests where made on those, and they came in on the top 5 out of 10. Dell, Lenovo, Acer, and ASUS are the worst. I have proof, but it will take some time to find..

HP was good, in 2008. Nowadays, not so much. Talking with Computer Sales reps who know their stuff (geek to geek speak is awesome) have told me some horror stories about current HP laptop computers.

Sony= Apple Prices without the build quality

For a laptop, nothing beats ASUS in Price:Performance ratio. Check out the G series gaming laptops. The current G60JX is a 2.2GHz Core i5 with a nVidia GTX 360M graphics chipset. You take a hit in screen resolution (1366x768) but really anything over that is bad on a 16" laptop.

I have the earlier G60VX (899$ USD now if you can find it) and it runs quite well. Temps on the graphics will get somewhat high (70 centigrade) but its not a lap heater really.

The G series also has the main heat vent mounted on the left side. So a good 90% of the heat is vented away from you and the table surface. Means you can use it on your bed without worrying about the heat.

In my limited computer experience, i've seen that HP and Toshiba are (IMO) the best companies out there, for affordability+performance. I've had little experience with Toshiba, i've used my friend's, which is comprable to my HP, and he says it is excellent. I've had few troubles with my HP laptop (G60 summat, can't remember off the top of my head), and the one time i needed to contact HP, they were excellent. Quite understanding, helpful, and fairly prompt with their service, as well. HP makes terrible batteries, though..

agreed. They have not-so-good batteries, but better performance.. odd isnt it?

Yeah. Every single HP i've had (2 [Cause that's all that impressive. ]) has had its battery replaced before the 1 year warranty ran out. But they do have good performance, and are pretty durable. The comp used to type this has been at a worksite for around a month nao without anything bad happening to it, even though it has been dropped like 20 times, sitting on top of piles of dirt while running, and getting caulk all over the keyboard.

EDIT: Also, if you aren't too stuck on these choices, look at HP's laptops with designations beginning with G(#) instead of dv(#). Unless you want the cool design on the laptop and the extra, unnessecary outputs, the G series usually gives the same performance as the dv's(Entertainment Series) for a lesser price.
