Getting new units into the game?
Do I hex edit them into the game or can I use Lua?

What???
Have you read the tutorials? You make a map, or side mod, and you only hex addons, cloth to units. But you need to munge them with the modtool to an lvl file

I think he means to add units to the main maps (or his map).
