Re: Favourite FPS/TPS series?
I really liked the Halo series though I haven't played the third one yet, the other two I have. I'm not to big of fan over the CoD series though I've only played the CoD 2 and CoD 5 demo's. CoD 4 looked fun though. The SWBF series was okay. It was really fun while first playing through it the first time of course it was my first FPS PC game. The only other games I played before that were the Windows and Dell games on the PC and the Nientendo 64 games. SWJKA was another "okay" game. It wasn't that great and often got boring after the long campaign. The others I haven't played yet.

Re: Favourite FPS/TPS series?
SWBF2 was rushed. The modding is good, but it's got bad gameplay and is unrealistic. Take a game like Counter Strike. Any pistol on that (except the glock) will easily kill someone in 1 shot in the head, and CS is still fun and realistic. And also, there's way less skill involved in SWBF2 than other games. The shots move slowly (unrealistic and bad for gameplay), so it's more about luck.

Yah, we were talking about that on Xbox Live the other day. They had around a year to finish and release SWBF2. Considering all the work that went into it + modtools that's really impressive. So we can't be too hard on the game.

Re: Favourite FPS/TPS series?
Maybe I should've rephrased that to "realism isn't the first priority". Now, if it was a game like CoD, then I would expect realism, since those types of games usually have it. As for me, I'd rather play a game with great gameplay and crappy realism then a game with great realism and crappy gameplay.swbf_lase wrote:EPIC PHAIL. Many people go to games for realism. If you've ever played America's Army, there are clans out there DEDICATED to realistic gameplay. Take the insurgency mod for HL2. VERY REALISTIC. No crosshairs, no hud at all really, just strategy and shooting which takes a long time to perfect as the guns in that game are very hard to aim. CoD4 has Hardcore mode which is trying to get a more realistic edge in. If you pair that up with a clan that is about realism, you'll have a mighty good time.Ping wrote: The gameplay isn't that bad. Also, nobody goes for realism in games. If all games went for realism, then most games would suck. And I agree about the online part. I never play online anymore unless a GT member has a server up.
There are some games where online is great, such as America's Army which seems to have a much more mature crowd and doesn't accuse everyone of hacking. Combat Arms on the other hand is extremely immature because almost everyone cries "haxorzzzz" if they get shot. Combat Arms btw is a very unrealistic game.
America's Army 3 is coming out in 9 days which should help bring a very realistic gameplay to the combat game table.
What about Flight Simulator X while we're on the topic? That game is a purely designed FLIGHT SIMULATOR that is designed and coded to be able to be as close to the real thing as possible.

Okay okay we get it, you don't like the game. Now move on. You've stated this opinion what, three or four times in this thread alone? Unless I'm mistaken, the thread (even if you did make it) isn't about whining about Battlefront II. Every time someone disagrees with you, it is not your duty to chime in "nuh uh, SWBF is a bad game and it's bad and it's no fun."PsYcH0_]-[aMsT3r wrote:The modding is good, but it's got bad gameplay and is unrealistic.
You're going to have to accept that you'll get a lot of disagreement in a forum filled with probably the greatest concentration of people who like SWBF2 for what it is.

Yeah, it's sortof like going onto a Chevrolet forum and then talking about all of the flaws in the cars. Don't get me wrong, opinions are fine, but you can't expect to not make a few folks irritated to dog on the whole reason why they're at a particular website/forum.
Just a heads up -- it's not against the rules or anything, but just realize repeating how much you dislike SWBF2 doesn't exactly make others your best friend.

However, it is off-topic in this thread (the excessive negative posting about one game). By your (OP's) own post, this is about your favorite FPS/TPS series - it's an opportunity to celebrate what you like, but not an opportunity to rag heavily on other people's choices.Teancum wrote:it's not against the rules or anything,

Re: Favourite FPS/TPS series?
Too true.
So to get back on topic, I still hold a lot of love for the original Jedi Knight/Mysteries of the Sith games. I was soooooo excited when SITH2 (a remake of the JK/MotS engine) was being worked on, and nearly got depressed years ago when it was dropped. Those games are still fun to this day, and they're 11+ years old. Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are both awesome games, but JK/MotS are still 100x better to me.

QFT. I found Outcast to be better than Academy, but like you, I think MotS and JK were better. Although the only thing that annoyed me about MotS was the one level where you had to escape from an asteroid that going to go boom, and another level where you're without any weapons, and then come across a rancor, and then find out your lightsaber is across the room and is the only weapon you can use to kill that monster.Teancum wrote:Too true.

As much as I enjoy games liek Halo and CoD...deep down I'm all Star Wars Nerd.
My favs are the Battlefront Series and Republic Commando. Call me out all you want, but in my world, Master Chief and the entire Spartan army don't stand a chance against Boss, Fixer, Sev, and Scorch.

I'm gonna have to say Team Fortress, just for the nigh infinite replay value. IMO the TF2/Gmod package on steam is the best deal around.
