I sure hope Disney doesn't bring back Jar Jar... God, I can only imagine how horrific they would make him... :o

As I say to myself. You never know until you see what they can do.

It had better be about freaking Kyle Katarn. Or the Yuuzhan Vong. Or both.

To be fair to the prequels, overall they aren't truly that bad. When I look at them as films, I can safely say that they aren't exactly the best. However, when looked at as a story component in a grand overall vision, they actually represent some significant figureheads in the Star Wars mythos. This is coming from someone who The Phantom Menace is their favorite prequel (minus jar jar).

Also, I don't quite understand why people don't want any George Lucas involvement at all. It is his franchise, and he should have at least some story-say as to what happens. However, I think it should be that the new films are primarily produced without Lucas present.

All in all, I have high hopes for these films. Plus, since Disney panders to "cash cows," perhaps Battlefront III will finally happen, the biggest cash-cow star wars game ever!

Get out.

I'm just kidding, but seriously - you can take out The Phantom Menace from the entire Star Wars story and you wouldn't miss ANYTHING. You can start from Attack of the Clones, and be totally informed. The Phantom Menace is an unnecessary film.

I actually don't see many people saying they don't want Lucas involved. In fact, a lot of people here have supported the model of Lucas providing some backing and creative vision, and letting others lead the projects, like the two clone wars series so far.

I can get behind that idea.

re:Phantom Menace. I always thought it was the worst of the PT, but didn't really understand how bad until I saw RedLetterMedia's review of it. While I hate the guy's comedy with a paaassionn, his review of it was good and made me understand everything wrong with it.

And yeah, Grev is really right. Nothing is gained from it.

I would like to see something written largely by Zahn.

They recently confirmed it would be an entirely new story. It won't have any of those most likely.

It'll interesting to see if they draw anything from the EU. I don't like most of the EU except Thrawn and Kyle Katarn's story.

I'm calling that they won't. Aside from maybe some locations, like Coruscant was. The prequels steam-rolled over old EU written for the Clone Wars, I expect nothing less from the new movies.

If anything, I hope it's set in the distant-enough future for it to not matter to currently-existing EU, but I don't think that'll happen.

Maybe they will be set in the KotOR era? Overall, there is an infinite ammount of eras to choose from...

I've always thought the EU sucked except for Katarn's story (Which I'm obviously impartial to because I love the games so much). So I'm glad they aren't using any of that.

Pshaw. Never mind multiple pairs. Since when has the Rule of Two ever not been broken in the EU, Bane books excepted? Two there are, a master and an apprentice, and a whole sub-brotherhood of dark-side monks.

That said, the Rule of Two is an interesting concept that, quite frankly, I like and wish had been followed a bit more strictly. True, it'd get a bit repetitive if the same Sith master/apprentice pair were the antagonists of every story, but you don't even need dark-side users as antagonists just because it's Star Wars.
perhaps the rule of 2 only applies to sith lords

other that i'm fine with Disney buying lucasfilm. They didn't screw up muppets or marvel.
Also I love the PM and jar jar.

I'm going to assume you haven't read any of Timothy Zahn's books.

I won't accept any other reality than that.

Meh. They had their high points. Too many authors were let in on them, though.

They most certainly weren't good. There are some individual books in there that are great (Dark Tide, Destiny's Way), but overall, it's mediocre at best. The only high points were the battles and the duels, tbh. I also wouldn't call it the worst sci-fi arc; Legacy of the Force takes that cake. At least the NJO had a redeeming factor or two.

Anyways, I'm glad that the next film will be a totally original story. It most likely won't conflict with the EU (Thrawn trilogy in particular), and I can get behind it. No worries, but all my hopes will be dashed if it ends up like the Prequels.
