Possible 'contest' Design and development

Long time no see GT! :D

I'm having a little project from school to work on during the holiday break, which is designing and moddeling a vehicle. Now I decided to do a motor cycle. I was wondering if people might maybe be interested to have a contest of some sort, not to big, in which some staff might be judge, if they're okay with it anyway?

It's always nice to have a little break in projects, and for me, this is really fun to do. Designing and making things really give you a great feeling when they turn out quite nice! Let me know what you think

There have been a lot of suggestions for a contest like this, but they never made it. My opinion on this is the following:
LET'S DO THIS!

What are we going to make? Because of this site, I'd suggest a general theme of "space" and "vehicle" and let everyone decide on how they're going to use these themes in their project.
Do we have to really "design" something or is an artsy display of the project good as well. (I'd prefer the latter, being more of a modeler than a designer of usable stuff)

I'm more a moddeler. What I mean with a design, is well, maybe a good set of reference pictures, or an own drawing.

About vehicles, I was thinking about whatever people want. As long as you can really see it's 'scratch' made, and people really thought about why using a cylinder instead of cube, etc.

I'm thrilled to see a moddeling contest, even though it might consist of a few people. Hope staff is in the mood for this

Even though I'm still a noob at modeling I'd like to give it a try... And I wouldnt mind making a few scetches on paper to go along with it, because it might actually help me

If this will happen before August 1st or after August 22nd you can count me in. Would the vehicles have to be SWBF I+II compatible or just for fun?

I don't dare to make the rules, I'ld rather have a moderator (Bert what about you? you're the buggy-master) decide some rules and data. I thought to give it a shot in a topic, and to my opinion 5 modellers could make a fine contest.

I'ld like to see every vehicle, but somehow non-swbf makes it a bit more realistic to my opinion. For my school assignment, an existing vehicletype should be used :P

I think ill but out then, cause if its only for 5 then I'll leave it to the more experienced. Makes for a better contest that way.

I dont think he meant that theres only place for 5 modellers, rather that with 5 participants its worth the organizing.

Ah, okay, but I still think there should be one for noob modelers too, just to see what kind of models come from it.

I'll join in. It'll give me good motivation to finish out a character, weapon or Vehicle model. Just set some rules and a category.

Does this include textures too?

I can't say I'm an exceptional modeler, and I've never done anything like this before, so it should be fun!

I'm in.

Someone should get this set in motion, I'd love to do this, but the end of summer is coming soon.

Hmm... I will keep an eye on this... hopefully I will have time for this... I need a good excuse for modeling as well.

The rules would have to look something like this:
(Tri Budget: (depends if vehicle, weapon, etc))
Texture: ?
Theme: Space or so
Type of model: Weapon, Vehicle, Character, Prop
Start/End date:

The two big questions are when and what. Maybe a poll would be good...

I think that we just should have a moderator decide which rules we're going to have to live by, the outcome of a poll won't necessarily help, but I'm all up for a poll for the theme.

why do you think that a single moderators decision is better than a poll? (no offence to the moderators :P)

Just for the dates, not for the themes. The reason I it would be better if a moderator makes this decision, because the results of a poll will always be reason for discussion and that would shave more time that we have to actually work on something.

Wait, is this XSI only?
