ok, i've scaled the meshes, repositioned the nulls, and redid the animation
does the scale look good? TIE cockpit is approx. 3 x 3 x 3

"concept art" of the Laigrek in space, firing its ordnance
The torpedoes are supposed to be "red as a laigrek's eye"
and the standard tie lasers would be fired by an autoturret

Yep. Lol...TIE scat....
TIE Shyrack sounds nice, though it does bring to mind TIE Shamrock.
I liked the TIE-SCAT Idea the best, but whatever...

He meant
this kind of Drexl.

I knew that. I just couldn't resist saying it. Laigrek really seems like a better name to me, though.

The name is Laigrek, so name suggestions aren't needed anymore. Does the model look correctly scaled at the top of this page?

The scaling looks perfect.

Thanks, I think I get scaling better now. So what do I do to get it all exported and animated? I have XSI ModTool btw.
Edit: I think I figured out how to envelope the merged mesh to the nulls.
and it exported through mshex looking ok, except no firepoints, oops

nulls/weighting fixed, now it doesn't get mutant when it animates

It looks like TIE components fitted onto an X-wing skeleton.

now uses the imported standard tie cockpit, instead of one made from scratch
also, i redid the proton torpedo tubes

I must admit that for a while I was thinking this was a so-so model, the kind that would be ok to include but I probably would just use a normal TIE instead because it's not that much better.
But those proton tubes won me over. Simple and really nice-looking.

TIE Hunter...
Just for the record, TIE Hunter was used in the game "Rouge Squadron 3: Rebel Strike"
It did have folding wings though but, they didn't move like the droid starfighters do.
Great model BTW

what made it great was using the stock cockpit and adding those proton tubes!

Thanks for the comments!
I think the body needs something, like a panel, or a... a... a... hm, something... to make it less plain, but nothing extreme... any ideas? Maybe a vent or two? With a darker part of the textures?
