Manipulator moves but object doesn't- Mod Tool [Solved]

Post by fai222 »

I have just started modeling and I use XSI 6 Mod Tools. But I got a small problem which makes it difficult to be accurate when moving objects, editing the size etc.

To explain the problem i have created this picture.
1. I make a cube
2. I try to make it move 4 y-axis by writing 4 in the y-axis place.
3. The box doesnt move but the y,x,z-axis thing does.

How do I fix this? I also get this error when I open the mod tools:
This application has failed to start because d3d10.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Your first problem is a Translation bug in the Mod Tool layout, switch to XSI Default(Pro Mode) under Modes in the top menu and translate the cube by typing numeric values in the Transform panel of the MCP and see if that works for you, if you switch back to the Mod Tool layout after this then it should be OK from there.
Your error with the missing dll is related to directx 10.

How is that a problem, I thought that was how the translation tool worked. To actually get the object to translate to four units higher, you can set the y-axis translate place to -4 then reset the translation, this moves the axes to the center (0,0,0) and thus moves the object the same distance the axes moved, namely four units higher.

The pic shows that his manipulator moves but the object doesn't, the object should move with the manipulator when it's translated.

Okay, so I guess it is a bug, I was just mentioning a method that I used to get around the bug. The only side effect is that the axes is no longer at the center of the object, instead it's at the center of the coordinate space (you can fix this simply by typing a 4 back into the y-axis space).

It worked! Thank you! Does the error with the missing dll do something to the mod tools?

I don't think so, I couldn't find anything on the XSI support wiki concerning this but as long as everything works then you're good to go and I wouldn't worry about it.
