And remember that painting I did on Artpad? I resized it, touched it up and now it looks 10x better. And it's a nice desktop too

Bit of an update on mine:

As you can also see on the Firefox icon, the icons on my desktop also have mouse-over effects (they expand and turn orange-y), and effects when you click them (they make a little sensor-ping kinda effect). Makes it much more interactive and cool.

I had quite a time getting that background.

At first I just searched on Google and I found a 1024 x 768 one which looked like this. I didn't like the black bars. So I looked again.

I got a good one here but it only came in 1280 x 960. My screen resolution is 1280 x 800. So I had to resize it. But I kept distorting the image in GIMP and it looked awful. And finally, I figured out how to resize it in GIMP properly.

Stupid me.
