Off-Topic Only 1 Page??

Sorry if this has been around for a while, but I just realized today that the off topic area only has 1pg whereas before it had like 10+. Did it recently get cleared out so now there's only a certain number of topics that it can have in that designated area?

The Off-Topic forum is the only forum set to auto prune old topics.

Ok, so after a topic has reached its 30-day max no-posts, it gets like automatically deleted?

No, it jumps straight to deletion, passing completely through the "like deleted" phase.

Once the topic gets deleted, shouldn't the person's post count go down as well if they posted in that thread??

It does.

Does it matter? Post count is a really shallow way to judge a person's status in a forum.

Slightly off-topic from the Off-topic topic, but...
Shouldn't other threads unrelated to modding also get cleaned out? Just looking at the "game discussion-other" forum, some of the topics there predate Republic Commando. Even SWBF2 itself.

Ya, I feel like the game discussion forum could get cleaned out as well because there are 26pgs just waiting for a newbie to get on here and find an interesting topic and post in it and forget the rule and then an admin/mod will come on and tell him about it and lock the thread anyway.

Eh, I just hate seeing how I have like one of the highest post counts when I don't do any mapping/modding and I can't help a person with their problem cuz I'm not an expert in that field of expertise.

There are other ways you can help, like giving your feedback. People are always looking for feedback, even if it is negative -but constructive- feedback. You have been around this place for a couple years now, I'm sure you have played plenty of SWBFII maps/mods, I'm also sure that you have seen many things work and fail in said maps/mods; that, my friend, is experience, you can use it to help new mappers figure out what they want to do with their projects.

Go to the WIPs forum and take a look at all the new maps being worked on, tell the authors your honest (but respectful) opinion about their work. As I said before, you have seen plenty of things done to this game, I'm sure you have your own points of view on what is fun and what is not, don't be afraid to make suggestions or voice any concerns you may have with the direction a project is taking, just remember: it's not your map/mod/whatever, it's someone else's and they may do whatever they want with it, they may also have an entirely different opinion about what they are doing, and you should respect that. To each, his own.

But that's about it, say what you think and try to offer helpful ideas, just remember your place as an advisor, not a builder. Oh, and don't forget that people have limitations, even Maveritchell has limitations, so don't go suggesting something too 'fancy' to a newcomer. :P

That is very true, my friend. I can notice a novice mapper when I see stuff like the map having the default Yavin sky, Yavin props, etc. and I can tell them to change it (that is, if they're not doing it on Yavin and/or they're using the props for something else) but I can't solve any of the complex problems that they may have like how to change the sky, terrain, water depth, etc. That kinda of modding isn't for me, at least not at the present. I've tried learning it once but it was too complicated for me and so I either gave up or got distracted and forgot about it. I want to try modding/mapping again but its a little too late in the summer and so I'll have to wait for my next break to see if I can handle it.

Hmm, I see, well I'm just saying that you shouldn't worry to much about not being able to help with the technical details - it would be nice if you could, of course, but what really matters is that you are doing the best you can with what you've got.

There's still important stuff in there though. For instance, the E3 2010 has been bumped more than once with useful information.

By that reasoning we shouldn't have any threads at all over 30 days old. The off-topic forum is pruned only because it's just that. There's no point in bumping off-topic stuff, because its off-topic. Even though a n00b might bump say a release thread saying the link is broken, that's useful, because we can add a link in the 'Links to SWBF-2 Maps + Mods + Sources' thread, fixing the problem.

This more sounds like being upset that the off-topic forum gets pruned rather than wanting to prune other forums.

Ok, sorry I was just trying to help but it seems as though you guys have it all under control.

I probably shouldn't have been so short about things, but it just seems like something that wasn't worth the energy to fight over.

I see. Off-topic posts are of topical interest only and become redundant quickly.
