Why would I need Dual Screens?

So I have two questions about Dual Screens. One, what's so helpful and cool about them? My dad said he'd think about getting them when I tell him why I want them other than just that I want them. Two, how do you hook up the second moniter?

Are you asking people to give you a reason to want something that you currently have no reason for wanting, just so you can ask your dad to waste money on an extra monitor?

Well, we have an extra moniter already, if we didn't, I wouldn't of asked.

Dual monitors aren't any good for gaming really. It's for development purposes. I have dual monitors at work -- on the left I have Visual Studio running, and on the right the actual live site I'm working with. That way I can easily view changes online.
To run two monitors you need a graphics card with two VGA or DVI outs. After that you just hook em up.

Okay, so I need a new graphics card, of a certain kind, check, we were gonna get one so my computer wouldn't be so [Diet Dr. Pepper] slow in KotOR, among other things, and then there's two jacks for another moniter, I'm guessing? Or does it require a special cord?

Most new graphics cards will have two monitor jacks.
