My noobish first time questions

Hi. This is JROD. I'm trying to work on a map, but have a few questions that I do not believe have been fully addressed in the documentation or any of your faqs. First, I can't get the darn snowspeeder to spawn. In the two class fields that the hoth map has it in, I copied the "all_fly_snowspeeder," but nothing happens. And yes, I copied all of the hoth odfs and mshs into the JRD world folder. Next, what software is good to have in order to make good maps. Do I need XSI, and is it possible to make my own objects instead of using the shipped ones? And would google sketchup work? I'm sorry for these nooby questions, but I really could use some help. Thanks for everything guys :D

Hey thar, welcome to gt
for your vehicle question, i would help if i could but im inschool and cant find the tuts. (ill get back to you this afternoon) and as for a modelling program, XSI is the program i use although its quite hard to learn. sketchup can work ifyou send it to someone or export them yourself via XSI.

Doesn't XSI cost like more than 3 computers?

yes, but you can use a trial version (of xsi 5.1) and everything but enveloped stuff like units and some vehicles can be exported with repsharpshooters insane meshtool and can be created with the free xsi 6 modtool

And don't let myths discourage you. XSI isn't at all that hard to learn. Myself, I just sat down for an hour with a decent tutorial and I figured out all the basics (except using Rep's MshEx, which of course wasn't covered in the tutorial. Still, once you get MshEx figured out [it's not that hard, either] you're pretty much all set for making addon meshes, props, weapons, vehicles....)

Ah, and welcome to GT!

All right. I figured the vehicle thing out (didn't realize u needed to declare them in the LUA), but now i have another problemn :jab:. Well, sort of a combination of 2 related problems. I tried to add the tatoonie luke that the doc on jedi creation tells u to do, and I know I did most things right since I got lazy and copied the two folders that came with it :D. But whenever I declared it (jdi_demojedi) as the hero in the LUA, you simply never get an opportunity to use the hero. So, I tried replacing it with the sniper droid on the cis faction, so whenever I play CIS there simply is no sniper character. If you want, I will copy the lua and post it here if anyone needs it. The second portion of this problem is that whenever I used Rancor's rancor assets in the same way, (simply adding it to the side "JDI") instead of there being no rancor ingame, the game crashes as soon as I run it. There were two munge errors, but I don't remember them so I will have to munge again if you need them. I am not posting them now because 1) they are not on the computer I am using
and 2)I figured these were common noob-questions that everyone here would know, however they aren't addressed in the docs (and there are a LOT of things that aren't addressed in the docs; how to move up in zeroeditor one [took me like 2 weeks to figure that out with luck lol]). Thanks for tolerating me; I hope to catch onto modding fast and not stay a noob forever! Thanks again,

That's covered in the ZeroEditor_guide.doc, be sure to read it thoroughly(and the rest of the docs as well) for much more helpful information that you will inevitably need as you progress.

Post your error log, when you ran it without the Rancor. In other words, remove the Rancor, replace the CIS sniper with the demo jedi, and runt he debug tool. Then post the Bf2_log.txt.

If there's a munge error, we should see what the errors are from the mungelog first, since the map won't run until they are fixed. Then, we can get into running the debug exe to help determine the lua error.

if i munge just the side JDI, there are no errors. If I hit select all, then one error occurs but its about no object collision with a turret on naboo or something like that. I munged on laptop with the rancor and got no errors as well.
