How to merge several models together

I'm trying to put the phase 2 clone trooper helmet onto the airborne trooper body and add cody's visor to the helmet. But I'm not sure what the easiest way of doing this would be. I heard you can hexedit msh's together but I don't know where I would start but I don't want to export the models from msh to obj and edit them in a 3d modelling program, rig and import them back to a msh. Please Help  Image Image Image I'm not sure if these images will work

you need to use the direct links to the images and use img and hide tags

Hex editing:
If you understood all those you know about hexing. They describe all the same thing

After you read through all those links above you are ready for this answer and you'll understand it. Don't ask stupid questioins before you read the links above (after you did you can ask as many stupid questions as you like  )
Hidden/Spoiler:
You can only hex edit model chunks. Since most units are only one chunk you cannot extract the helmet. So you need to do it in XSI.
Don't worry since there is this awesome ZETools you can simply import and export msh files.
Make sure you import he the helmet unit first, remove everything but the mesh and delete all polygons except the helemt
now import the body, remove the helmet and make sure you did not destroy the enveloping.
now you can envelope only the helme to the bone head (that's why it was important to import the models in the right way. otherwise you'd destroy the body enveloping and then you'd need to redo everything)
finally it's up to you whether you wanna import the visor, too and attach it to the head bone, or envelope it to the head bone, or if you prefer to hex edit it.

good luck

Thanks for all the info

EDIT
ARRRGGGHHH!!!
I've read the links but I have no idea how to install the PandemicBF2.xsiaddon into XSI Softimage 7.5 I have seen how to get it working after installation such as the Windows 7 and Vista Fixes but I don't know how to install it. I tried to run the file and place it into C:\Softimage\Softimage_Mod_Tool_7.5\Addons but without luck please help

EDIT: 2
Do you have any good tutorials on deleting the polygons and the skeleton I've seen tutorials on how too rig and envelope obj's but none on my current process.

I've managed to delete all the bones of the model but I have no idea how to delete part of it. I think I would have to ungroup it but I'm not sure how to do that Thanks

You don't remove parts. Remove all from the unit you take the helmet, and use all from the other one.

What ?
Never mind I didn't word my question out properly. I deleted all the bones and rigging from the model and I'm only left with the model nothing else and I don't know how to delete everything but the head. I tried deforming by cage but I had no idea what I was doing. I hope this question is more clearer sorry.

you need the polygon select tool to select single polygons and delete them.

Okay will try this out thanks

EDIT

I used the hide tags and the image tags and the link so if it doesnt work I don't know what I did wrong with the image.
Anyway whenever I try to export my msh i get this error

Export aborted:
Could not find valid Primitive (sphere/cube/cylinder) for Cloth Collision Primitive
"c_r_calf"

I've tried exporting other mshs and it worked but when trying to export with an addon msh it doesn't seem to work

EDIT 2
Ok I realized its not the addon model but the model I tried exporting it by itself and it didn't work. The model I'm using is the HD 1.0 clone pack. None of the models work when I try to export them out of XSI but all the other models do :(

It didn't have any cloth and I didn't remove it. I imported it and changed nothing and tried exporting but it didn't work

You need to use the direct links to the images.

And no that's not what i mean. We need to see your scene explorer.

Something like this:

Any model which has a name starting with 'c_' is considered a cloth collision primitive by ZETools. If you did not name a model 'c_r_calf' then you probably imported a model that had cloth but the primitive data got lost somewhere. If you don't have/want any cloth then you could just rename it to something else (or delete it as it's likely useless).

Thank you I got it to work I managed to export it by deleting everything that started with "c_"
