Woa!! this looks fantastic! i always thougt that a battle over endor map would be cool.and this one just looks awesome! the reskinned cruisers look much better then the shipped ones. Are you also going to change some weapons and make all weapons stronger? i think it would be cool when a starfighter-laser kills a opponent starfighter with one hit. then you could move quicker and don“t have to shoot on starfighters for hours.also making the autoturrets stronger but their lasers slower would be nice i think.

Most times in the movies TIE fighters are able to shoot down an X-wing in 2 hits
And X-wings can shoot down TIE fighters in 1 hit due to TIE fighters having no shields.

And most times in a game no one's going to enjoy dying in one hit. There comes a time when realism has to be sacrificed for gameplay.

That being said, starfighter lasers are more powerful and do play a greater role. Starfighter setup is a little different:
TIE Fighters have only lasers - they're more powerful lasers, and the TIEs are faster & more maneuverable than X-Wings.
X-Wings are sturdier than TIEs and carry 8 proton torpedoes.
TIE Interceptors are faster than TIEs, have quicker but weaker lasers, and carry advanced concussion missiles (4).
A-Wings have essentially the same setup as TIE/Is, but they're a little slower and sturdier.
Y-Wings have laser cannons and proton torpedoes (16), and the gunner can fire ion cannons.
TIE Bombers have lasers and proton torpedoes (2), but the bombardier can fire proton bombs (8).
TIE Defenders are the fastest ship, and they carry laser cannons and advanced torpedoes (2). They're about as sturdy as a TIE bomber.
B-Wings are the toughest ship, although they're a little slower than an X-Wing. They carry laser cannons and 8 advanced torpedoes.
And the Falcon's pretty slick, but I'll let ya'll figure that one out yourselves.

Super_Shadowman wrote:It all sounds great, but the bomber being in the second position in the TIE bomber might be troublesome. The AI is really bad at aiming with it, and if you're not controlling the ship it will NOT 'stay on target'.
The AI tends to aim only at critical systems. Alternatively you can not take an AI with you and switch to the second seat (this just means that your craft moves in only a straight line while you fire, which is a suitable handicap for the most powerful ordnance by at least a factor of 2).

I have totally overseen your new Topic.
That new Endor Space-Map looks ultra awesome. :P
Great Work

the "secret ship" is much too undetailed, a lot of parts are missing, the engines are lowdetailed, no emargination for the cannons...
and the hangars are both on one side :P

Is there a way that you can get a different view of the SSD, it seems like a side view would serve better aesthetically, or at least a less angled frontal view.

Very impressive. Any relation to the old one like a year or two ago? Forgot wh made it. Never got released, I think.

OMG  it looks nearly...incredible, its just too awesome to be true!

-i like the nebulae, its better than just stars as someone mentioned before

-it would be also nice if you could take out the imps shields by destroying the 'big bubbles' on the bridge

-you should also make the controlled turrets stronger (like in BFX mod) to make a ship-to-ship battle possible

Please don't go there. :P People keep perpetuating this idea that the sensor globes are sheild generators, but it's nonsequitur. Anyway, SWTC explains this better than I can relate it on short notice. The second link is for emphasis. You can just scroll down to it, but I want to make sure that part gets noticed.

My apologies for continually hijacking the thread with technical arguements. I'm just being overly enthusiastic about accuracy. Nothing really ruins an experience for me like seeing something like this go unchecked. This particular item is a very old pet peeve.

You're thinking of xwingguy's Battle of Endor. No relation, except in name (and theme, obviously). His was a full-interior setup geared more towards boarding whereas mine is geared more towards space combat.

@MN: Not to worry about "accuracy" and whatever. I'm aware of what's what and I don't plan on scripting in anything making the sensor domes tied to the shields.

@negah: What I've done with the turrets is make all the remote turrets particle cannons, which means that they'll be decent for ship-to-ship, but they're not going to be the best strategy, by far. It's all going to be about using your ion cannons or proton bombs to attack the enemy's capital.

To aid the appearance of ship-to-ship combat taking place, I've added in a lot of dummy turrets - autoturrets that shoot often but whose ordnance does no damage.

that makes sense
and just look at this picture:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
its called Nurrungar-RadarDome.jpg and looks just like that things on the bridge

but you could still make decrease the shield by for example 15% destroying them

The 'things' on the bridge are what we know as shield generators. I believe they supply the shielding to the bridge even when the main destroyer shield is brought down. I could be mistaken, however. Great work, Mav! Looking forward to it. Between this, the Battle over Coruscant, and the Battle above Muunilinst, this is definitely one of my favorite battles.

Edit- Oh wait, you knew that. XD Oh well...

whatever happened to the guy that was making a Battle of Endor map? I was really looking forward to it, considering there was a DSII which u could fly inside to the reactor.

They're unrelated, read through some of what MercuryNoodles posted earlier, it's a well-written (if somewhat SW-geeky :P ) take on it.
Lord Bardar wrote:whatever happened to the guy that was making a Battle of Endor map? I was really looking forward to it, considering there was a DSII which u could fly inside to the reactor.
No, that wasn't xwingguy's map. There have been two separate semi-serious attempts at this. The first was xwingguy's:
http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... =29&t=6474
And the second was 11of3's:
http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... &sk=t&sd=a

As mentioned before, xwingguy's was a take on the actual battle among the ships (although focused on boarding and controlling the inside of the ships). 11of3's was one that focused on entering the actual DSII (similar to his previous Dogfighting Death Star).

Any Battle of Endor map is going to lose something in the translation. There's no way to make a fullscale map with the right number of fullsize capitals, a Death Star, and a Super Star Destroyer without having a map that's also virtually unplayable or actually unplayable.

I've chosen to focus on making the space battle an exciting one centered around the capital ships, since in my experience maps with a Death Star in them either look sloppy or are very system-taxing. Likewise, I want the focus to be on the actual dogfighting, and not slogging around an interior populated by confused solitary AI or by countless autoturrets.

Also, and most importantly, I'm choosing to make a map that I'm going to actually finish, because as fun as those other maps looked, they never got done.
