Elfie's 1st Model Pack (WIP)

Alright so thanks to repsharpshooter I was able to successfully export my first few models I have ever made and decided to release them once they are all finished.
So far I have made:
- a brick wall
- a camoflage bunker, great for snipers and there is a space in it big enough to fit a small turret
- a fuel barrel - explodes when you shoot it
- some sort of road barrier (still trying to fix the textures on it)
- a road sign that says "Caution"
- a wooden walkway
I will try and get the fuel barrel pic up later today or tommarow
Pics:
Feel free to comment also so I can make them better.

Yeah actually I just started last week. Rep's mesh exporter gave me some insparation so I tried it out and it was actually a lot easier than I thought, plus you don't have to depend on other people to make stuff for you!

Right now I am just focusing on props because I kind of just started. If you are intersted in learning I could direct you to the tutorial I learned off of which can be found
HERE Follow the tutorial and then use rep's mesh exporter to export and vaila!

Using a nice texture is good, but that doesn't mean you can get lazy and leave all of the object's detail to the texture, you still need to define some shape by sculpting out some extrusions like where the bottom ledge of the window is, and maybe even recessing the window back a little into the wall so it'll catch the light ingame, it would look so much better with some detail in the geometry.
Right now all you have is a box, so I wouldn't worry about the poly count being too high, go ahead and put some detail in the geometry.

i agree with acemastermind, even though i dont model. im just wondering, what exactly is a "poly" and what does it mean "poly count"? just curious...
EDIT: actually, i know exactly what a poly is. and scratch the "i dont model" part. im learning right now lol. thanks for pointing out that tut elfie!

Unless you're me. Really, I always try to keep it as low-poly as possible. I don't see anything wrong with cubes. They do work, but they aren't exciting as super mega cheese doodely accurate models.

Well, I do not blame you. I have been into XSI for about 1,5 years, and I learned some weeks ago what a poly was. I always thought that they were the
points (So I thought a cube had four polies for example). Polygons are the
surfaces, so a simple cube has six polygons. To find out your model's polycount, click the "I" icon (Stats) and then hit the "U" key.
Edit: No need for this then, obiboba3po.

oh well, i had a general idea, from the tut, but now i understand better lol.
i think that model would look good if you do what acemastermind suggested, and make the window curve in a little bit. or you can go with what youjedijunkie said. either way, i like the texture

Actually bad news about the building. It appears to have crashed my map so it looks like you can only really count on the wall, the bunker, and the sign thing to be in the pack. I apologize for this. I will try and fix it as best I can though.

Even if you can't get a particular model to work, with MshEx, for some reason, you can still send it to a regular old exporter.

That is true, although I don't think it is the exporters fault, just my noobie skills at modeling.

Made a new model. A sign that says "Caution", and I also updated the first post with pics of the caution sign and pics of the fuel barrel. Here are the pics again:

The only thing I think could be better would be this one:
The texture looks a little too... light. The texture itself is awesome, but I think it'd look better if it was somewhat darker. Just a suggestion.
Anyway, they all look great, better than most of the stuff I've made

.

Well, it just so happens i was thinking the same thing and made a new, darker version:
As well as a new model, a woden walkway, complete with planks and supports, perfect as a dock for the water, or just a walkway on kashyyk:

Thanks wazmol, I am glad you guys like them. I should have it released fairly soon along with my other assets and my geonosis map. It might be delayed depending on how many models I am going to make, although the pack is decently sized.

Whew... I thought a random person just came in and started modeling and was insanely good at it.... now I don't feel like I suck.
But elfie, those are really good, especially for being among your first models, if I'm right. The bunker now lloks really good, though it looks like it's solid cotton or something. It should be a little metalier.

Yeah this is litterally the first few models I have ever made ever that you are seeing here. As for the bunker it is supposed to be more of like sand filled bunker with like a tight cloth with camo patterns holding the sand in.

Thank you! I have been trying to find that out for ages!
