Since i have been using GIMP for awhile now, I've decided to make a topic where people can ask questions about GIMP and making skins for Star Wars Battlefront 2, and i will answer them, any one else can answer questions as well, this is just a good way to help people with making skins.
If people need a load of help, i will post pics of GIMP with buttons etc. circled, so they now what to click on, or do.
I hope this will be useful for people.

How come when you open the cis, rebels, and most of the empire units all
you see is a gray and black checkerboard and a faint skin behind it?

the checkered black and grey is transparancy. i dont no how to fix it but i think dragon does

Open it up into a image viewing program like infran view and copy and paste it into gimp. its a alpha channel problem with the gimp

1. Open up the image in GIMP, then go to Image > Mode > Decompose...
2. Under Extract Channels, select RGB, so you don't extract the Alpha channel, which is causing the problem.
3. On the decomposed version go to, Image > Mode > Compose...
4. Again, select RGB.
5. Save the Composed version, then start editing.

That's what happens if you don't compose after you've decomposed.
Also make sure that it is just RGB that you compose and decompose.

Yeh, of course, you could make a folder, or save it, and any more you do in the assets, then when you do them once, they will be there again.

Hiwever, you'll have to be sure to recompose with the alpha channel before putting it back in-game, or you'll lose the specular, glow or transparency that thte model originally had.

i have a question, is there a way to make gimp in one window, it gets confusing with like 3 windows open.

This might not be the right forum but could you give me a step by step EASY
tutorial on adding skins in game cuz I want to and I really don't know how

When saving, select save as, and uncheck compression.
