Hey I have gotten the clone wars animated cartoon pack for jedi academy and I was wondering how to put the character models and the weapons in battlefront 2. like what directories would they go in and how would I make it work.

thank you

For starters you can't just "add in" files from other games. You would have to convert the models, but we won't even let you discuss them or use them here unless you have permission from the original models' creator(s) to convert and reuse.

I know I am asking how to convert them and according to the readme in the files the author says they are free to use as long as you credit him if you release it which I have no plans to do anyway.

You need to convert the original .glm models to .xsi using Milkshape and then from .xsi to .msh using either a trial of XSI Foundation (4.2-5.11) or XSI Modtool -> MshEx. Information on these programs and others can be found in our 3D modeling forum. Please ask further modeling-specific questions there.

And as a side note, it still might be courteous to ask the original modder for his permission - it's always nice to hear from people using your work.

and in response to your side note I am requesting his permission as we speak. (or type in this case)

Yeah if you want to put JA models in SWBF2 then you've got quite a journey ahead and a lot to learn if you've never done it and you'll need to know how to use several tools for the conversion and setup process.
All of this has been discussed here several times already, search the 3D Modeling & Animation forum for more information on getting the models "game ready".

I renamed your topic to be a tad more descriptive of the subject as well.

Welcome to Gametoast. Be sure to check out The FAQ / Everything You Need Thread Version along with the SWBF2 mod tools documentation for modding-related tutorials.

Tthanks for everybodies help but the author has not been on his profile for sometime and in light of this I do not expect a reply and upon further reflection despite what he posted in his readme I do not feel right abut doing this without his permission. There have also been a lot of arguments about what is illegal and respecful and I dont want to and even though these are cimmunity models I dont want to break the law in anyway as I have been reading the discussion about how only lucas can give permission and I also do not want to bring the disrespect of the community upon myself. So would a moderator please delete this thread.

Thanks for everything,
DemonPastry

We won't delete it, because it's useful information. I will encourage you doing whatever your conscience dictates, as in this case it is a higher standard, but you should be aware that our permission rules at Gametoast fully allow using models like you would in this case. If you've made an earnest effort to contact the author (and especially in light of the fact that his readme held no usage stipulations) and he hasn't responded, we consider that "enough" and we have no problem with you using the model so long as proper accreditation is given.

Kindof off-topic, but if this is your first or second mod/map you definitely want to go simpler. Doing stuff like this is very complex and it much more than a new modder can bite off without a little experience.
