Import .obj file does not work (XSI Modtools 4.2)

hello everyone,
iam dealing with this problem for quite a while now...searched with google, used the forums searchfunction and the xsi online docs with no success.
i already displayed this issue in the "opening and saving a model" thread scince it dealed with a similar problem.
after several weeks with no reaction to my question in this thread i decided to open a new one -
with a suiting title.
so what i actually try to do is edit the shipped models from the mod tools with xsi scince they all are a little bit low poly (1000-2000 on most characters that could easily be doubled).
i downloaded the meshtool4 beta and converted the rep_la_at_gunship from .msh to .obj, opened the xsi modtools with a plain new scene, hit import->.obj, browsed to the meshtool4 directory where the .obj file is (is there anything else than the .obj file required to be in there? like textures or .options?)
left the checkboxes as they are, hit ok - nothing happens-.-
as long as the import .obj pop up is opened there is "Wavefront_Import" under "Scene Root" noticeable in the xsi explorer..as soon as i hit ok it disappears.
iam fairly new to xsi modtools and usually like to get used to programs like that by myself using docs (or tutorials) but i just could not find suiting ones so i decided to ask the almighty gametoast community
iam also quite sure that iam missing some steps when importing or that i have to tweak the checkboxes a little bit or that there are some more files required to successfully import a .obj file to xsi.
worst case would be that the shipped models cant be opened in xsi at all (which hopefully isnt the case *fingers crossed*)
i guess that i explained my problem detailed enough for you (my appreciated friends) to help me:)
gametoast, you are my only hope :greeny: and a big thanks in advance
