Xagobah: Mazarian Assault WIP

Ok, so this is a thread that I have created for my map, Xagobah: Mazarian Assault that I am currently working on. To make it short, no, I did not copy the idea from the map over at filefront. I actually got the map idea from the book Boba Fett #5: A New Threat.

Now that that’s said, my main goal for this map is epicness. The stock SWBF2 maps have only 16 units on the field at a time. Wow, that’s a lot. In reality, such famous battles for planets like Geonosis had thousands of troops at a time. Now, this could very easily make the map unplayable, so I have, currently, 1000 reinforcements with 100 units on the battlefield at a time. I also have a larger amount of command vehicles than most maps; at times there can be two gunships, two UTATs, and 5-7 ATTEs. I had to recently tone this number down a bit, since I was going over the 16 cp limit.

I really don’t have the time to go into storyline details here, so check out the Boba Fett book if you want to know. I might update this with a basic storyline later; we’ll see what time allows. The specific storyline for my map is as follows (much of it is exactly what is said in the book):

Jedi General Glynn-Beti has landed on Xagobah, along with Anakin Skywalker. They are leading the clone assault on the Mazarian citadel, a bioengineered nightmare created by the Separatist Wat Tambor, who is holed up inside his nightmarish structure. The hours of battle turn into days, with no foreseeable victory. Finally, the Jedi decide to pull out all the stops and send in an elite team of clones, the best-of the best from their respective legions. Among them are clone commandos, assassins, top-notch sharpshooters and heavy weapons specialists, vehicle technicians, and the elite-of-the-elite jet troopers. Along with the troops comes drops of ATTEs, speeders, ATRTs, and the new concept UTATs. Gunships, ARC-170 fighters, and several jedi starfighters are flown down to assist in the battle.

On the opposing side, the CIS is preparing for the onslaught of the Republic forces. They airdrop their most powerful tanks and walkers, including the Dwarf and Homing Spider Droids, the feared Hailfire droid, and the Armored Tank Droid. The common STAP is shipped in bulk to the Mazarian. Leading the countercharge is General Grievous.

On the battlefield, an unlikely alliance forms between Anakin Skywalker and the bounty hunter Boba Fett, who was sent by Jabba the Hutt to collect the bounty placed on Wat Tambor. As he says, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, and thus he assists the Republic forces in the assault.


The map is about 3/4 done:

Sides (customization of): 75%
Terrain (height/texture): 100%
Props/turrets: 85%
Locals (Anakin + Boba Fett, Xamsters(Xagobah locals): 0%
Vehicles: 90%
Localization: 95%
Sounds: 80%
.ODF changes (realism fixes): 50%

So, I have the majority of the map done; the only big project I still have to tackle is making my custom local sides.

looks awesome
you should add some secret tunnels(like ventilation shafts) in the cis base for the clone commanos and the elite-of-the-elite jettroopers :P
and some towers around the battlefield for snipers
you could also add a landed acclamator if you havent done it yet

I would! Is the republic star destroyer included in the assets, or is there a place where I can download it? That would look great in the background! :D
And if you want sniper areas, there is a giant mountain in the ceter of the battlefield that separates the battle into left and right ditches. I've found that climing up that about halfway gives you a great sniper spot (at least until someone snipers YOU :wink: ).
Thanks for the fast feedback. And by the way, on one computer I saw, the pics were red x's. But on my mother's, they were the hide/spoiler boxes. :cpu: Whatever, it works.

Nice idea, and it all looks great, but I would reccomend adding some foliage, more cover for the AI and players, and more of a fortress. I saw 3 temples and a wall.

Wow, this looks cool man! I love the vehicles, doesn't matter if they're from the assets or whereever you got them from :P

The only suggestion i have for every map is include sky domes.. That's it! Keep it up man, looks really cool! :thumbs:

the screens work fine for me
and yeah, you should make the cis base a bit larger, try to add some underground rooms and tunnels, like reskinned hoth rooms and tunnels, or polis massa rooms, or death star rooms, or some cis cap ship interiors...........
just look at the imperial base beta map and youll see what i mean
and if youll make an underground tunnel system you could make one of the entrances near the republic base

I'd say this is one of the probably top 3 WiPs in the last six months. You seem to understand how to use different terrain textures to achieve the feel of a totally different place, there's a nice use of foliage (but not too much) and correctly done water. Keep it up. :thumbs:

So, I'd set a potential beta release date (read: might change) for two-three weeks. The last big projects are adding Anakin and Boba Fett to a local side (so that they run around as ai). After that, just a bunch of minor tweaks.

Oh, and I have a tiny glitch with my battle droid. I currently have a battle droid working, except for one thing... I can't give it thermal detonators (grenades)! If I replace the wrist rocket with them, the map crashes upon loading to the "pick your side" screen.

By the way, what are sky domes? Aren't those the images of capital ships patrolling the skys? And how do I put that on my map? I'm using the Geonosis sky, so can I use that sky dome?

And here is a totally awesome image that I took last night. I was playing as clones when this massive dwarf spider raid came up out of the swamps! The ai must have been hording every single spawned dwarf spider they could get, because they can only get a bit more than this!

Ive got to agree with Tean, this is a nice map. It looks simple, but its still a great idea. However, a sugggestion of mine would be to look beyond the foresty map assets. Think outside the box, and you can come up with some crazy stuff for a Xagobah map that would make it feel original. Its hard to explain, but I hope you get it. Good job!

Off topic: Tean, what are the top 3 WIPs?

By the way, I wouldn't call those "foresty", I'm still planning on adding more fungus to the map.
