Grappling Hook?

Is there any way to make a grappling hook weapon? I thought of this because I downloaded some of Skyhammer's assets and tried to give a Gungan the grappling hook weapon that Skyhamemr made. All it did was move him forward a tiny bit. It didn't make him swing up or even sideways. What do I have to do? I would post the grapplinghook_ord.odf, but it's Skyhammer's work, I'm not sure I should until he gives me permission to....

Maybe Sky could explain why h put that in there, then? It must have some purpose.

It's 100% impossible. He was probably just messing around but the code just is not the executable and so it can't be done.

If it's called imp_weap_grapplinghook or something like that, I didn't make it or modify it at all. It's just included in the default imp odfs and I must have forgotten to delete it.

Just to be clear: it's not my work at all. I've never tried to make a grappling hook (have tried a harpoon gun, that doesn't work either).

If a grappling hook isn't possible then explain to me what exactly the Snow Speeders use. I haven't tried the grappling hook, but I've always held the belief that it was a handheld ATAT tripper.

We're talking about a grappling hook that will pull you to the place where it lands. The Sonwspeeder tow cable is just an ordinance that wraps around the ATAT's leg and when it's finished the ATAT has an animation to fall down.

Dann Boeing has a "warp gun". And I think that a grappling hook could be possible using reverse explosions, the trick would be finding a way that no matter what it would affect the guy who shot it and only the guy who shot it. Animal as a health type isn't used for any units I've seen, so you could set the (pardon the alternate slang term) hooker's health type to animal and then make it so that the explosion only affects animal health types. This depends on whether or not the push is part of the multiplier on the lines such as "VehiclesScale ="

And the more experienced modders after reading this will most likely think I'm a moron.

But how would you get it to get you exactly where you need it to go?

False. A reverse explosion works like force pull. You set it to negative something. I did it with the Klags' Magnet bombs. It will suck you to the epicenter of the explosion.

Edit: Provided the force of the explosion doesn't glitch you to death.

Well I'm still not so sure that it's possible because I remember Tean saying something about using force pull won't work, but go ahead and try it, it's the best way to learn

handheld tow cable = impossible. Cannon weapon type doesn't support the ordnance - causes crash. Tried it.

Tourny...what your saying probably is possible. But it would look extremely sloppy, even if you did get it to work.

All the same, a grappling hook woudl be extremely beneficial to my map. Really. So I will follow Tourny's grappling hook adventures with intense interest. I've got to take a look at that Magnet Bomb.

I released the Magnet Bomb along with the rest of the Klag assets in the "Klag Side" Topic in the released assets.

Yes, I know, that is where I am going to go to download it. Any way to put such a Magnet Bomb on a missile so you can shoot it like a grappling hook?

This "magnet bomb" wouldn't work properly because there is no way to make it pull only you. It would pull anyone within range.

This has been gone over countless times. The proverbial horse is dead! It cannot be done well, if at all.

And if you edited the range so that only you were in it? Or would that make it a really short grapple?

And I don't mind if anyone else is pulled along.

You can't make yourself get pulled in, it's coded to where it'll only pull enemies. Again Grappling hooks are NOT possible in SWBF2.
