Mysteries of the TIE (and probably others)

I was looking at the TIE's ODF because I wanted to make it into a prop, and noticed some odd stuff. Uncommented was a secondary weapon, "imp_weap_fly_tiefighter_ptorpedo" an "ExplosionCritical" (you don't die when destroyed; like the CLoud Car on Bespin), a "HitLocation = "p_crithit 1.5" (probably a weak spot, like the critical hit points on the trooptrans in SWBF2), and "StrafeSpeed = 6.5" "StrafeRollAngle = 0.05" (strafing; similar to the gunship/MAF?).
I've made a new ODF and uncommented this stuff; I hope it works. A TIE with proton torpedoes, strafing, a critical hit point, and delayed explosion would be awesome. I'll try to test it this week.

That would be super awsome! That was the lamest thing I've said in a while, but yeah...if I'm not mistaken critical hit points are in SWBF2 , so maybe this was a feature they were working on, but never made it to primary release, thus it is implemented into te sequal. Interesting...

I checked the others, and discovered that all flyers have critical hit points, the delayed explosion, and strafing. I also discovered that the Droid Starfighter originally had torpedoes. I made a new ODF for that too so I'll test that as well.

I've already tested the Droid Star-fighter's torpedos : They're nice, but their HUD's icon is wrong... (If I remind well, the icon is Grenades' one...)
Regarding the TIE, why would you want to restore its torpedos, as a
real TIE does not have any ?

In
Episode III, Vulture Droids have such weapons... But I'm not sure for those in
Episode I...

In Ep1, they had energy torpedoes (basically slow re-charging, heavy damage blasters). I think in Ep3 they had the energy torpedoes and buzz droid missiles.
As for the TIE, I just think it would be different/interesting/balanced. In SWBF2 they balanced the fighter out in the GCW by giving the TIEs protons, but I think they took it back out.

Is that right ? I thought
Pandemic would respect the
true properties of any star-ship of the
Star Wars universe...

The best way to balance TIE's vs X-Wings & still remain true to the Star Wars universe is through sheer numbers.
X-Wings have the torpedoes and shields where as TIE's don't. TIE's are very manueverble and the Empire has superior numbers of them. (and they're not afraid to use them)

I those two star-ships were "properly" balanced, then TIEs would be destroyed at the first salvo...
