The Avengers game that could have been
http://kotaku.com/5841416/a-three+minut ... sassembled
Kotaku has details of what's going on with THQ and the cancelling of it. I'd like to discuss how awesome, atleast potentially awesome, this game could have been.
First Person Heroes. Playing as Iron man. 4 player co-op. Not restricted to the Avengers line up. Able to have two Hulks.
I wrote THQ an email saying they should keep this project alive.
Also video may contain spoilers to the movie.

Re: The Avengers game that could have been
Videos have been removed from Youtube. Copyright stuff, I suppose.
Well, to be honest, I yet to have seen an outstanding game tie-in for a movie, normally they put very little resources on those and they end up as mere cash-ins. They could of use this idea in Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I always felt there was too little differentiation between characters, I mean, yeah they have different abilities and all that, but the whole different perspectives and different types of gameplay could have worked quite well in that game.

Although not a "movie tie-in" per say, last year War For Cybertron and Spider Man: Shattered Dimensions were two fantastic franchise tie-ins that I'd HIGHLY recommend.Nihillo wrote:

I saw the video on Kotaku, and I really liked the first person. While I'm usually an advocate for third person game-play, I thought the first person looked really well done. I like to hope that should the game come out by any chance, that won't be the game's one gimmick. Lots of movie-tie ins have a gimmick and gameplay element that's used over and over again.

@Nihillo: It should still work right there on Kotaku.
I really did like the FPP, I think it's a smart twist. War for Cybertron, Batman AA, and Spiderman Shattered were good, atleast from what I've read/heard. The new spider man with time and Batman AC look great too. I do hope this Avengers game makes it through and breaks the mold of bland tie-ins.
Podracer and Goldeneye are the only movie games I can remember that were good.

With the exception of Star Wars games, 95% of all movie-based games suck. Especially all the animated ones like Happy Feet, Madagascar, Ice Age, Finding Nemo and Toy Story. Doesn't matter of they are aimed towards little kids, they still shouldn't suck.
I wish this project hadn't been canceled though. I hate it when games are canceled.

I disagree.THEWULFMAN wrote:With the exception of Star Wars games, 95% of all movie-based games suck.
The first three Harry Potter games were good. As was Toy Story 2: Action Game, The Emperor's New Groove video game, and Back to the Future: The Video Game. And those are just a few that I've played.
As for the topic at hand, I did manage to see the videos before they were taken down, and I agree, it looked very well done. It truly is a shame when promising projects get cancelled because of company politics.

And those are part of the 5% that are good. Yes, the first 3 Harry Potter games were good, but the rest are average at best. Back to the Future: The Video Game is awesome. I can't speak for Toy Story 2: Action Game, and The Emperor's New Groove video game so I'll just take your word for it.
If you want a long list of bad movie based video games, I can deliver.

BTTF how could I forget. Anyways, yes Twillight, it looked so well for just alpha. Hence why I wrote to THQ to reassure them THQ Aussie was on to something.

Well, I agree, but those aren't movie tie-ins, they are just games that were made based on movies/comic books. I'm talking about games made to be specifically released along with a blockbuster movie. I've seen a few of them that are decent (such as the Captain America game) but none of them are "must-play" games.Grev wrote:Although not a "movie tie-in" per say, last year War For Cybertron and Spider Man: Shattered Dimensions were two fantastic franchise tie-ins that I'd HIGHLY recommend.
