Eliminating the alpha channel with GIMP 2.6.6 [Solved]

Post by biohazard »

I watched the tutorial on it, but I'm using a recent version of GIMP, and the features are quite different, and the menu options used are no longer existant. I tried saving as a non-alpha bitmap, but it messed with the colors a bit.

Help, please?

I found what I was looking for under Colors > Components > Compose/Decompose

Ah, I think you have the same version I do. You decompose the skin to get the greyscale, then recompose from the greyscale to get the colored version. Afterwards, when you're done skinning, you decompose the colored version in RBG mode into seperate files, decompose the original skin into RGBA mode into seperate files and close the RGB ones (to get the A or alpha one), then recompose from any of the remaining R, G, B, or A ones (into RGBA mode).

But addressing his original question...
I found what I was looking for under Colors > Components > Compose/Decompose
...he's got all he needs. The tutorial covers how to do the work, it was just made before a newer version of GIMP came out. Like he said, the decompose command is located in Colors -> Components.

Ah, my apologies. Still, a little extra explanation never hurt anyone.
