If you are running the safe mode of BF2, it does not do a disk check, I used to run it all the time when I was using my family's computer and didn't want to mess with putting the disc in.

Really? Cool. Could have used it all those years I looked for my disc for ten minutes when I wanted to play >.<computergeek wrote:If you are running the safe mode of BF2, it does not do a disk check, I used to run it all the time when I was using my family's computer and didn't want to mess with putting the disc in.

Mine performs a disc check regardless of launching it in safe mode or not. I should note that I probably have a first generation DVD of this game though.computergeek wrote:If you are running the safe mode of BF2, it does not do a disk check...

Which exe file is your shortcut pointing to (warning using memory again so names may not be exactly as shown) the launchbattlefrontII or just the battlefrontII.exe if it is the latter the same happens to me (on both DVD and CD versions, yes I have 2 copies what can I say) and have started it without having the CD in the drive for whatever reason and it has worked.
Now what is interesting though is it will sometimes check for the cd if I run ZE. ZE phone home
You mentioned you have a legit copy so you are not doing anything illegal as you still had to enter the key to install the game so I would say go with the quirk.

Okeday, if I'm told it works I shall believe you
I don't know how to run BF2 in 'safe mode' so it's not that. Probably a programming fail on Pandemic's part. The case doesn't give the issue date but I think it's a fairly recent issue because nobody sold BF2 for PC at any retailer I went to until a week ago.

My legal copy of the DVD only works without the disk if I launch it using Xfire to join a server. Other than that, it needs the disk.

My legal DVD copy runs without the disc when I run BattlefrontII.exe only, Not LaunchBFII.exe. This is a pretty weird bug/oversight.

Yeah, we've been through this already. That's why I left the topic to rot after I said this:

Mine does that backwards! It is a legal cd, but occasionaly, when I insert it,It tells me not to use a backup, when the cd is completely legit.. wierd...
by the way, my brother and I share the game between us on the same disk, would this version switcher thing be able to be used legaly to play the ame both at the same time?

So I just download it and run it and I can play my game without the disk right?

Okay, I'm going to be quite honest here, that's what I did. I installed the game on both computers using my legal copy, then I used the version switcher on my brother's (cuz I'm in college now and I have access to the disk while he doesn't). The only thing is you'll need two different CD keys if you want to play on the same online server at the same time. You can both play on the same LAN server with the same CD Key, and you can play on two DIFFERENT online servers at the same time with the same CD key, but you can't both get on one online server to play together.Slime615 wrote:Mine does that backwards! Fortunately, my cousin also has a copy of SWBF2, so he let me use his key. He never plays online anymore, so even if my brother and my cousin play at the same time, there shouldn't be a problem, as my cousin won't be online.

Nope.
Same thing about the CD Keys, though, you'd need two LEGAL CD Keys if you want to play online together.
