GIMP-Easy way to make clouds for skies

FAQ/Clouds with GIMP

Sometimes, trying to make clouds with GIMP gets a little impossible for someone that dont knows how, this FAQ will show you a very easy way to make it in GIMP:

First, you need Gimp, a link for it can be found at the sticky.

Second, you must know what you want.

For this FAQ i will use a sky found in the ZE files.

Next, get the sky and open it with GIMP.

This one for example:

Search for this tool:

Low opacity to 50

When you have done that:

Select a size, color and shape for the tool.

Next, start painting.
Remember: light colors for the edge, and darker colors for the inside.

When you do it it may lookm like this:

Then add darker colors:

Then, search for this tool:

Then use it until you get this:

Ok, ok... i didnt worked it too much, its only to show you.

You can give it more details with the pen tool, or if you dont like work, XD, you can use some tools that can be downloaded and they come shaped, but they dont ussually get the shape that you want.

Remember to save as TGA and dont save it with RLE compression or BF2 wont read it.

Any question ? Did i missed something ?

Something else to do is to make the "clouds" on a new layer, then drop the transparency down.

Like in Naboo ? if you see the files the stars are separated from the sky.

No, he meant as in: You make a seperate layer in gimp, you paint a cloud on top of it, make the layer transparent, then merge the layers back together. This way, you can't acccidently smooth out the original sky, and it can make it look even less painted on.

Ah, i tought that he was talking about the game... and yes it can be with the alpha, and since i have the spanish V of GIMP, i didnt know that it said "layer", because in mine it says "capas"...

i dont know, but it looks a bit too painty to me :-/
maybe you can add more realism by adding more layers and using the same procedure again but with slightly different colors and other layout
