Gmax usage
for whatever reason, XSI refuses to work for me. So i looked at some other 3D modeling programs and came up with Gmax. does anyone know whether or not Gmax will work to create models to use in BF2?

Re: Gmax usage
Yea, but you still have to send it through a full XSI user.
Or use mshex, in conjunction with XSI.

Re: Gmax usage
There's a gmax script you can run while your model is open that is called gMAX2OBJ.ms. You put it in gmax/scripts. It basically writes the OBJ text for your model. Run the script. Then you have to run a program called GMaxSLGRAB.exe. This saves the text that gMAX2OBJ wrote as an XML text file. You have to remove a few notes from the file manually and then save it as an OBJ. From there, you would have to port it back to XSI, reapply the textures, and then use MeshEx to convert it to .msh.
Its a hell of a lot of trouble but Gmax is definitely more user friendly. But I had to quit because no one on my xfire used gmax so I couldn't get any support.

Re: Gmax usage
huh. sounds like a lot of more advanced stuff that i can't do yet. oh well. i assume if i made a nifty model that i wanted to use i could find someone on GT willing to export it then? that would be great.trainmaster611 wrote:There's a gmax script you can run while your model is open that is called gMAX2OBJ.ms. edit: i'm currently playing around with gmax, and i was wondering just how to go about viewing the object in the (i think)
rendered view. XSI is easy for that, but i cant find anything useful...
i've made a simple box and i'm trying to texture it and view it in its "final" form, but i have no idea how to do that
