AirspeedRedux wrote:Maybe I've been spoiled by your fantastic maps in the past, but I remember going through your maps on Filefront and I think the only one I avoided was Talay (the original I guess) because it didn't seem up to par with your usual work. (This was based on the pictures alone) Either way, to see that you're tackling it again is really awesome. I'm quite excited to give this a play through!
Apologies if I sounded jerkish up there, just trying to illustrate how awesome I think this looks.
Same here. But that isn't to disrespect AQT, I was just waiting for updated textures so I can enjoy this map in its fullest.
Not just textures, but layout and other things. Looks like I'll get quite the feeling of nostalgia on this new version.

@AirspeedRedux and TWINKEY: No problem at all. I feel the same way, which is somewhat part of the reason why I'm remaking this map in the first place. And, as Revan partially pointed out, this won't be the old map with changes made to it, but rather a map made entirely from scratch.
So I made quite a lot of overall progress since last Wednesday. I'm trying to get as much done in a day as I can since I recently just found I only have two weeks for break! Anyway, here are a couple screenshots showing off some scenery:
Hidden/Spoiler:
And here are the sides for Team Deathmatch mode:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Empire
Imperial Stormtrooper
Weapons: E-11 Blaster Rifle, SE-14r Side Arm Blaster, Thermal Detonators
Imperial Shock Trooper
Weapons: PTL Missile Launcher, SE-14r Side Arm Blaster, Thermal Detonators, Proximity Mines
Imperial Scout Trooper
Weapons: DLT-19 Sniper Rifle, SE-14r Side Arm Blaster, Thermal Detonators, Auto Turrets
Imperial Engineer
Weapons: E-11b Blast Cannon, F-187 Fusion Cutter, Detpacks, Dispenser Health & Ammo
Imperial Dark Trooper (Phase 1)
Weapons: Arm-Mounted Vibroblade
That's it for now. Expect updates to come frequently in the next couple of weeks.

I love the bearded Dark Forces Kyle. They should have gone with that in the game. (Yes, I know DF came before the JK series )

Thanks, guys! @Teancum: Yep, he certainly looks better bearded. And surprisingly enough, the Dark Forces version of him in action figure form has a beard!
Onto some more information regarding the campaign: You, the player, will encounter the following enemies while playing as Kyle:
Hidden/Spoiler:
(From left to right): The first unit is the Imperial Stormtrooper, the grunt of the enemy forces. They're armed with the standard E-11. They aren't much of threat when dealing with just one, but they can be pretty deadly in large numbers.
The next unit is the Imperial Navy Commando. In the original Dark Forces Imperial Navy Troopers (aka Death Star Troopers) were featured instead. But since then, TFU has been released, so I thought it would be nice to bridge the two games. Anyway, the commando is way more aggressive than the Stormtrooper, so even one alone can be very challenging to face.
And the final unit is the Imperial Officer. They're armed with a measly carbine but are extremely accurate with it. Some of them also carry key cards and other important items.
And since this mission takes place after a massacre, expect to to see a lot of the following around:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Corpses!
But not to worry; there won't just be death and destruction...
Hidden/Spoiler:
Pick one up, and get an extra life!
That's it for now.

Nice use of the stock CP model (from what I can tell at least)!

You're right, it's the stock model, you can tell by the UV's on its sides.
All looking good except maybe the "corpse" textures. They just don't quite... work. Maybe we can figure something out.

I agree with Wulf. Maybe the clothes can just be slightly faded, but the actualy body within can be all rotten and stuff. Just my input though. The map looks great!

@Dreadnot: Yep, you are indeed correct.
@WULF and Yuke: Yeah...the texture does kind of look literally like poop. The bodies are meant to be charred actually due to the fire power of the Dark Trooper's assault cannons. Well, I went back and used a skin I made a few years ago that I had yet to test in-game. Here it is now:
Hidden/Spoiler:
I'm not sure why I didn't use this skin in the first place because it doesn't look too bad at all! It could still use a bit more improvement, which I will work on.

that looks great! the textures really has a nice retro look. (except the tatooine(?) one on the buildings that seems a little too rough.
the new corpse texture looks really scary...i kind of expect that guy to get up and jump at me when im close. are you planning a suprise zombie mod?

What a... burn?
That sort of thing could get a man... fired?
I think he was... hot... for... you?
.....okay I think I shall stop this craziness.
In any-case, nice erm....corpses (as creepy as that sounds), AQT. I have a copy of a remastered version of the track used in that mission in Dark Forces, in-case you want to use it in the campaign. Or I could just give you a PM from where I got it (DFMod site for JO/JA).
Zapattack1234 wrote:that looks great! Is this map supposed to have a "creepy" feel to it?
It had a very creepy feel in the original game (the one that creeped me out most as a kid) as well as the remake of the game as a mod for Jedi Academy and Outcast. I am going to make a guess here and go with that AQT is gonna be doing the same thing here.

Yep, creepy will be an aspect of it, at least just for the campaign mission, but there won't be any intentional jump scares and definitely no zombies.

Waaaaaay ahead of you. I'm already using it! Found it on Youtube.

Of course they look scary. Wouldn't your corpse look scary after being blasted by plasma bursts to the face?
