Droideka88 wrote:The question for these new gen games, especially the PS3, is how much memory do these games typically have? If it was 10GB, then either the games are too advanced for this time or the developers really are lazy to cramp the size down to small.

Sony is making the same big mistake SNK (now SNKPlaymore) made when they thought their arcade games like Metal Slug would own game business.
-The HD games need the space for the high resolution textures and videos.....Unless it's a short game it cannot fit on a dvd :?

Well, if you want backwards compatibility, be able to save games (well there are memory cards if I'm not mistaken) and keep your downloaded stuff... Yeah, I think it's worth it.

I'd better say it right now, before anyone attacks me for random reasons, I'm no fanboy of any of the new next-gen consoles! Now, with that out of the way I'll give you my little analysis of the consoles.

Wii:
I have never gotten the chance to play on this one, but it sure seems cool with the Wiimote and so on, and really, who can't love Mario Kart and Zelda?
The graphics are sure after but the best graphics of the "old-gen" (?) are really good enough...
And we have the Virtual Console here... Just a few things to tell you here (as the 16-bit era fanboy I am): Awesome! Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and Super Nintendo-games on the same system!?!?!? Pure awesomeness! (And not to forget the NES-games and so on).
But maybe I should'nt count oldies as the aces for the Wii, but they're awesome.

Xbox 360:
This is the one I've tried out the most (just in stores and such) and it's good. The controllers are so awesome! fit perfect in my hands and have good layout and so on.
The graphics for most games on it (of those I've seen) are really good, and there are a few cool games for it, like Guitar Hero 2 and up-coming Halo 3. Maybe the graphics ain't at the same top level as the PS3, but it's sure awesome graphics anyway.
And not to forget, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed... Oh, and Microsoft got Rare Ware, who made many of the absolutely best games in the old days, but sadly, I have'nt seen much impressing from them lately.

PS3:
I've tried this one a little bit, the graphics of Motorstorm sure blew me away, but other then that I don't have much to say about the console.
The controller is not that good, I've never liked the playstation controllers, the joysticks are at the completely wrong place in my opinion and the edges of the controllers hurt my hands (not really, but almost).
And I have never seen many impressive games for any Playstation-console (with a few exceptions like Guitar Hero and the first Crash Bandicoot-games). Of coursem MGS4 and Final Fantasy XIII may be good, but I don't know...

And now, my price comparison (All prices taken from swedish GAME):
Wii: 2700 SEK (Swedish kronor)
360: 3995 SEK (Premium)
PS3: 6500 SEK

I have to say, that the PS3 is the loser in my opinion, just because it's not worth the big amount of money and there are'nt many games that interest me...

Karnage wrote:This is what I think. I have never played a game on any of the Playstation consoles that I have liked. Almost every game on any of the Nintendo systems are pretty decent and I'd play any of them again. Every game I have played on the Xbox consoles I would definitely play more than once and enjoy it.

PS3 - $500
Wii - $250 + Xbox 360 - $300-$600 (if you want to go all out) = $550-$850

I'd say $50 more is a whole lot better when you can get two great quality consoles compared to one huge ripoff.
I have a tendancy to agree. The only games I ever played on the ps2 were the guitar hero series (2 was better) and gran turismo 3 so dishing out $500-$600 just doesn't cut it for me. The controllers are ackward and that goes for the ps3 also. I would buy the wii and the xbox 360 before I buy the ps3. As Karnage said, I get two for the price of one plus a wider range of games.

If the rumor is true, sony needs to focus on the ps3 before it even thinks of the ps4. If it doesn't, it will be a total waste of investment. It has potential, but it is not living up to it.

I think that the PS3 and 360 need to appeal to a larger audience, much like the Wii does. They need more party games that don't take very long to get the hang of, and are tons of fun. The Wii has something for everyone, while the 360 and PS3 are just for a smaller audience (gamers).
In my opinion, that's why the Wii is so ahead in sales.

I agree.

Meh, the Wii has something for families, but not really something for everyone. Name one really good shooter on the Wii.

Yeah, Nintendo is mostly about family-oriented games which is probably why the 360 is more popular with teens. Though you'd think there'd be a lot of good shooters for the Wii considering the motion system and all. Then again it came out less than a year ago.

As Era said, it came out less than a year ago. And I partly agree with you. Everyone thought that the Wii wouldn't be able to handle good shooters, so many companies backed off, but I think that once they see how Metroid Prime: Corruption turns out, they'll start to be more shooters.

I'm not disagreeing, but Nintendo has always been known for 'family' type games. I'm not saying there won't be a few decent shooters, but I just doubt they'll have the amount the other consoles have.

Ok, I agree with that.

Good shooter for Wii? Resident Evil 4. Call of Duty 3.

Which are on other systems as well. What exclusives does Wii have?

Resident Evil 4 is on other systems? :? And then there's Resident Evil 5 coming some time.
And Prime: Corruption will be good.

Uhh yeah, Gamecube and PS2. And it looks just as good as it does on the Wii, save the crazy use of bloom that every next-gen game has.

Ok, well they just haven't come out yet. You just wait. I'll prove you wrong someday.

Red Steel is the only one I guess.

I'd never have bought a Wii if it weren't for zelda, and I just like the magic wand thing :D I'm no real gamer.

But yeah, at the moment, there are no good Wii games for me. Most of them are too childish, or for multiplayer.

I hope you're right nuttboy but I doubt it.

Sony did absolutely screw up on their promises and launch. I like the 360, PS2 and PS3 in general and each has its good points. But at this stage, all Sony can do is upgrade and debug the PS3 (if they want to save cost they should recall unsold PS3 and upgrade those :P)

PS2 is the all time selling console of its time- its sells in games and systems surpassed Xbox. Plus it has a larger library of games, minus a few goodied like Halo, RC, and kotor.

360 has great graphics, speed and the best online play, but I've heard about problems with hardware, and firmware, plus not all games are backward compatible.

PS3 is from a technological standpoint superior to all fo them with its cell cpu that is 2x more powerful than the 360- it can handle a full 2Teraflops of data compared to 360's 1. The main prob with it though, is the system bugs and use of unproven proprietary technology.

Wii is a machine of pure fun and doesnt even come close to the power of next gen units. It has better graphics than PS2 and Gamecube because of superior graphics hardware. but the CPU is about the same. Still it more than makes up for this with massive gameplay value.

See but that's the thing, it's overkill to have all that power on the PS3. That'd be like playing the newest PC game on an 8ghz system with 10gb RAM and a 4gb video card. Nothing out there can touch it. Now people can argue that the PS3 will have a longer shelf life than the other two due to the fact that it'll still have more power to push in a few years, but consumers will look for the new system, whatever that is, even though the PS3 still has potential.

Bottom line is it's got all this power and nothing to use it on.
