Environment Ideas

Just wondering, something I'm making for Last Days involves "maps" that fit into the following categories:
"Canyon" "Cave" "Island"
So in terms of gameplay/map geography its limited to the above three categories, but in terms of visuals it can be pretty much whatever. The actual environments could be pretty much anything, e.g. icy misty caves, tropical palm tree covered islands in a sea of lava, black stone canyons with crystals, sandy islands dotted with wreckage etc etc etc.
So if you've got any ideas for a nice environment for one of those categories post them here. Only real rules are can't (a) be a stock BF2 or TCW planet or (b) not be based on one of the above categories (so sticking an entire city on an island is out).
Looking for about 3-5 environments for each of the above categories. Got a few ideas myself but would be interested to see what others come up with.

Some ideas for cave-ish maps I've considered in the past include maps set in mining tunnels on a planet like Kessel or Mon Gazza (planet from Episode I: Racer - basically a Kessel clone). You could mix cramped, narrow passages with larger chambers, have lots of winding paths for a bit of confusion, and play around with the lighting - have (small) stretches of nearly complete darkness with only dim strip lights scattered about to lead the way. Coloring for the ground (or in this case, tunnel) textures could be a reddish-brown.
Another idea would be a map set within the chambers and lava tubes of a volcano, inspired by the planet Baroonda (also from Episode I: Racer). This would be pretty much exactly what it sounds like - an enclosed map with a large chamber filled with lava, surrounded by narrow passages (or perhaps a series of lava chambers connected by passages).

An idea I love: a mix of interior/exterior;
(Ex: Tatooine: Sarlacc's underground).
Outdoor: Tatooine: Dune sea
Indoor: a undeground made of tunnels (like Felucia's one) and cave.

yeah, a map within some huge living thing like the sarlacc would be cool but really hard to pull of.
i think a map with really really high canyon with little space between the walls would be nice too.

Maybe a canyon like the one in
this picture, except with a winding river instead of just a mud creek.
(Or you could a have a regular water creek.)

@Everyone: Sorry, should have made this clear - the environments will pretty much be "skins", as in visual differences and some minor gameplay differences (eg for a lava island map you clearly can't walk through the water) to island hop. This means the actual layout of maps stays the same between visual environments. There'll be a few possible layouts per map though (different modes).

Hmm, interesting.

-not using stock planets as it says in the OP. Mix of interior exterior...eh probably won't do to any great extent except maybe with caves.

@poop - where is that?
@acryyptozoo - can't use modt of them because of shape differences, but like the mangrove idea...

1: A map where the player must weave through a dense network of stone stalagmites and spires to get places.
2: A map where the player must weave through a dense newtwork of trees/bushes to get places.
