June 30th Through July 10th.
This summer they're gonna do something like they did with the treasure hunt. They have a list of specified achievements and each one you do gives you one ticket. Each prize costs 3 tickets. The achievement list changes daily.
http://store.steampowered.com/summersale/prizebooth/
I'm assuming each day there's gonna be a freebie. Like today's is join the official group and get a ticket.
Plus, awesome deals. Go check it out.

I'm confused how the prizes work. Do you have to purchase something or is it achievement based? I really want the Magicka one but I can't seem to figure how to get it.

@GangsterJawa: It's too early to tell, but some, if not all, of these prizes may be obtainable through other means, like I'll assume they'll do with the Killing Floor prize. If, however, the one you wants doesn't happen to be one of those, or if none are, then yes, the only way to get them is by collecting enough tickets (3) in order to unlock it. There'll probably be a freebie a day like Twilight_Warrior said, but otherwise you'll have to get the achievements listed for tickets. (And if you don't have the game then obviously you need to buy it before you can get the achievement.)
Anyway, I've already bought Recettear and Lead and Gold, and I suspect I'll buy a lot more. I'm actually gonna be busy next week though, so I don't think I'll be able to get as many tickets as I want. Still, I already have 4, so I'm not too worried.

Snap. 12.50 for it? Dang. I think I will. I got the 1st episode free, but never got through it due to other things. Thanks for the heads up Tean.
@GangsterJawa: Fingerfood's got you covered. What you're seeing is probably the prize wall where you turn in your tickets for ingame content. If you look lower you'll see the games with 24 hour deals with achievements you "need" to earn tickets. Need is in "" because you don't have to buy that game just for the achievement. Just go your own pase.

These sales are bloody great. Usually some of these games are still around $30-$60 retail here in Australia, so seeing games THIS cheap is really quite a shocker.

I had a limited budget after getting the laptop, so I could only get L4D2. Oh well, a major game for $14 wasn't that bad of a deal.

SO MUCH ROBOT VIOLENCE!
Its strange though, I have been talking to other Aussies and they have been able to get it via gift or purchasing themselves... it just seems that some others and I are having trouble obtaining it.

I really recommend the 2K pack to anyone who hasnt played Borderlands/Bioshock/Bioshock 2 yet and doesnt mind getting some other good games for just 80€(from 525€)
I bought the Valve Complete Pack(I wanted Portal 2 which is just 3€ less than the portal pack which is just 9€ less than the Valve pack...) and now have a L4D to spare, anyone wants it in exchange for a game which is worth about 10€($; price in $ == price in € in Steam I believe)? Thats 10€/$ less than the usual price and 3€/$ less than the Summer Sale price!

Its the german low-violence version though...

But Germans get some Counter Strike weapons to "make up" for it. Aussies got screwed over too. The way around is have some one in another territory gift it to you. Kinda funny.
Today's were ok.
So far I've bought:
Sam HD 1st encounter
Back to the Future
Battlefront II (even though I have the 4 cd install, I just don't want to deal with that)
Men of War
Trine
Brought get Sam HD 2nd if I like the first. Beat Hazard and a key or two by the end of the sale. Possibly Republic Commandos.

Trine for $2? A fantastic deal. Got it yesterday. For whatever reason though, Steam isn't installing the game.

It's a great deal. I got it because of that and local multiplayer coop, and it's a different genre from most games I have.
Ya, I bet steam servers are swamped. I heard if you change your location it works better. I'm at my home home and not near my pc (in maryland) so I don't know exactly what's going on with the download speeds.

So far I've spent around $30 and picked up the following games:
Just Cause 2
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto 2
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Grand Theft Auto Vice City (These were all in the GTA bundle)
Half Life Bundle
This morning I also bought all the Stalker Games.
The only games I'm wanting right now (and waiting to go on further sale) are Terraria, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I was going to buy Trine last night, but I didn't like the demo. I guess I didn't find the look or setting of the game appealing, which sucks because I like side scrolling puzzle solvers.

Trine is something different for me. I'm enjoying it so far.
But out of all the games I've bought so far. Back to the Future is the one I'm enjoying the most. Thanks Tean! Just finished Ep1. Wow. I'm excited. Saving it for tomorrow though.
Beat Hazard is a guaranteed way to get epilepsy. I love it. Ultra plays a tad different from classic, but still great.
Still need to spend more time with Serious Sam 1st, and Men of War.
